TV MOVIES:
Short-lived series from 1974. Theme music by Gil Melle. NOTE: Archive.org has a wonky video player. You must wait for the page to fully load, then click on the episode in the list to make the correct episode player, regardless of the link you use. Otherwise the video player will just load the first episode in the list. And if the page doesn't load fully, it will also fail to play or play the wrong episode. Archive.org pages tend to load slowly, so be patient. Attention readers: I have been implementing a system that is nothing more than a note to myself; for cues that I want to include in a suite one day, for now on I will denote them with ^ symbol. It has no special meaning to anyone else but myself. No, the lack of an up arrow symbol doesn't mean the cue is bad (it just may have too much SFX or FX for suite use or just isn't worth my time to edit and include). Hence forth this system will be in all future threads and pre-exiting threads that I go back to for missed episodes. Anything in ( ) are just notes to the arrow and you need not bother with that. The system does not mean that I will make a suite or that one has been made, it's simply for my own reference if and when I do decide to. "The Night Stalker" (feature-length TV movie from 1972) By: Bob Cobert https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK+00+-The+Night+Stalker.mkv Highlight: 1:03 in.^ 2:06 in.^ 7:09 in. 12:00 in.^ 20:29 in.^ 22:46 in.^ 30:21 in.^ 40:15 in.^ * 48:27 in.^ 49:12 in.^ 52:08 in.^ 57:31 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 1:02:07 in. Cobert's music for the last three or four cues full of tension and drama just really sold the whole thing.^ 1:13:07 in.^ The score has that weird echo sound you hear on some scores recorded in Canada during that time, and if it was record there, the equivalent of the Canadian AFM, won't play ball on the re-use fees, and it makes it too expensive to release scores recorded in Canada. * = Sorry, but some of the ammo he gets hit with, even if it doesn't kill a vampire, would rip parts of him off and/or put holes in him. "The Night Strangler" (feature-length TV movie from 1973) By: Bob Cobert https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK+00+-The+Night+Strangler.mkv This is the only effort by Cobert for the series. Highlight: 0:00 in.^ 5:01 in. 8:04 in.^ 11:45 in. Arabian-flavored source cue for a belly dancer.^ 16:08 in.^ 17:28 in. 20:20/21:08 in.^ 23:00 in. 25:28 in. 26:21 in.^ 30:38 in.^ 39:53 in. More Arabian-flavored source music for a belly dancer, but at a slower pace.^ 47:25 in. 56:49/58:54 in.^ 1:03:59 in. 1:05:41 in.^ 1:07:46 in.^ 1:10:39 in.^ 1:15:18 in.^ 1:18:44 in.^ 1:22:09 in.^ 1:26:48 in.^(1:28:26) Separated by a year, both scores are cut from the same cloth and if legally possible, should be paired together on a release. (Note to Me: 2:25 -- composer credit) "Yes, we did that without consulting you. I hope that's all right, Mr. Kolchak."

SEASON 1:
I'm posting at the spooky (X-Files) time of 10:13 each day, but FSM is showing a post time of 10:18. My time is correct, according to the atomic clock; the most accurate clock in the world: https://time.gov/ "The Ripper" By: Gil Melle https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-01+-+The+Ripper.mp4 Highlight: 2:07 in.^ 7:35 in. 15:28 in.^ 21:22 in.^ 26:33 in.^ 36:48 in. Short outtro cue.^ 48:21 in.^ 51:06 in.^ This is one of two episodes scores on a bootleg, that overall has 49 tracks and 67:36 of playing time. Another score on it is titled "U.F.O.", which may be "The Quester Tapes". "Do you have change for a quarter?" -- there's a line I've not heard in a long, long, long time. (NtM: 51:28 in -- composer credit) "The Zombie" By: Gil Melle https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-02+-+The+Zombie.mp4 Highlight: 1:22 in.^ 3:03 in.^ 14:53/15:53 in.^ 19:17 in.^ 24:55 in. 26:39 in. Another score on it is titled "U.F.O.", which may be "The Quester Tapes". Though there is a U.F.O. ship in the prior episode "They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be...", so that could be it. I'll find my copy and try comparing cues to the episodes. And I'll eventually make suites from it for next year. Unless La La Land Records does a release before then. (NtM: 51:13) Kolchak: "Well, what can you expect from a city that erects a building to look like a stack of flat-jacks." (looking at the Capitol Records building) [Trivia: That Capitol Records building is still around today and an din use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Records_Building ] "The Werewolf" By: Jerry Fielding https://ok.ru/video/3288051092075 This is the first effort for semi replacement series composer Fielding. I don't know if my computer has gone wonky, but when I click on ALL the links you've provided, Justin, I get "The Night Stalker" every time. Going to the archive.com files directly from any of those Night Stalker uploads, I can choose the correct episode. I'm probably doing something wrong again.

Oh, sorry about that; I keep forgetting to make a note about it on each TV series thread. Archive.org as a wonky video player. The page has to load first, then you have to click on the episode and then it will load. Firefox, for example, as a thing on top that shows the page is loading. Archive.org tends to load slowly. Expect a wait.

It's the score from "They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be..." There's three episodes on the boot, this one, "The Ripper," and "The Vampire." "Bad Medicine" By: Jerry Fielding https://ok.ru/video/3288135371371 Highlight: 1:06 in. This cue contains the bustling brass work for the city, which I think is the music another user was referring to in another thread. There's more of it in other cues.^ 7:52 in.^ 8:39 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both) 20:32 in.^ 24:55 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 29:55 in. 34:41 in.^ 37:27 in. 40:52 in.^ 44:08 in.^ 48:26 in. If any of you recognize specific episodes any of these cues are tracked from, please do post them. (Score: 2:03 and the next cue [next cue: Fielding, from one of the recent prior episodes], 10:31, 16:01, 17:56, 18:57 [Melle for the open, can't say about the rest], 25:40, 30:57, 33:01, 42:59 [pretty sure this is Fielding, at least the opening should be], 48:07, and 50:48)
"The Energy Eater" By: Luchi De Jesus https://ok.ru/video/3288223255147 This is the only effort by De Jesus for the series. Highlight: 5:21 in.^ 8:22 in.^ 16:19 in. Dramatic chugging music for a nurse just walking to a room.^ 17:58 in.^ 22:45 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 26:41 in. Short transition cue.^ 32:49 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both) 38:56 in.^ 43:21 in.^ 49:16 in.^ Based upon this single effort, I'm glad he didn't get to do more episodes. He wasn't a fit. 1:22 in (the opening cue) is tracked from a prior Fielding score. Also used in the above track-job episode "The Spanish Moss Murders". So, if Kolchak thinks the Capitol Records building looks like a stack of flapjacks, then surely this hospital must look like stacked breasts, right? (NtM: 13:44, 45:24, 49:00, 50:47)

In the Fielding papers at BYU, this episode goes under the title "Diablero": http://files.lib.byu.edu/ead/XML/MSS2116.xml I've had difficulty locating "Diablero" within this site - I saw it just once near the end with respect to paper manuscripts, but I haven't seen this title in the section of recording tapes. [interestingly, these below do not refer to 'Kolchak' - they are denoted "Nitestalker" for 'The Night Stalker'] 7-inch Open Reel Audio Tape Recordings: Box Tape Contents 72 8 #41805 - “Devil’s Platform.” Complete score. Roll # 1. Nitestalker. 7½ ips 72 9 #41805 - “Devil’s Platform.” Complete score. Roll #2. Nitestalker. Full track 1800' 7½ ips 72 10 #41819 - “Doppelganger.” Complete score. Nitestalker. 1200'7½ ips 72 11 #41803 - “The Werewolf.” Complete score. Roll #1. Nitestalker. 1200' 7½ ips 72 12 #41803 - “The Werewolf.” Complete score. Roll #2. Nitestalker. 1800 7½ ips 72 13 #41815 - “The Rakshasa.” Complete score. Roll #1. Nitestalker. 1200' 7½ ips 72 14 #41815 - “The Rakshasa.” Complete score. Roll #2. Nitestalker. 7½ ips 72 15 #41824 - “R.I.N.G.” Complete score. Nitestalker. 1200' 7½ ips Seems that the episode titles themselves underwent last-minute changes multiple times. "Doppelganger" I think is "FireFall" "R.I.N.G." became "Mr. R.I.N.G." "The Rakshasa" is the Jimmy Sangster episode which was ultimately broadcast as "Horror in the Heights"; this segment credits Greig McRitchie as composer, so I wonder if Jerry Fielding provided raw material to orchestrator McRitchie and let him have sole credit?

Continuing SEASON 1:
"Horror in the Heights" By: Greig McRitchie https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK+10+-+The+Energy+Eater.mkv This is the only effort by McRitchie for the series. Highlight: 1:22 in.^ 4:02 in. I'll have to double check at some point, but that bustling city music might just be tracked from "Bad Medicine".^ 13:40 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 19:24 in.^ 22:01 in.^ 23:47 in.^ 27:10 in. Stops for two or three seconds, then continues.^ 33:17 in.^ 39:20 in.^ 42:05 in.^ 46:08 in.^ Unlike De Jesus, I think McRitchie got it and I would have been okay hearing more from him on the show. For some reason, his written score is in the Fielding papers at BYU, under the title "Rakshasa". As he orchestrated for Fielding, I suspect he probably sent Jerry a copy of the written score to look over before it was recorded. (NtM: 18:00 / composer credit: 50:57) "Mr. R.I.N.G." By: Jerry Fielding https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK+12+-+Mr.+R.I.N.G..mkv Highlight: 3:25 in.^ 5:33 in. Some more of that bustling brass work in two different parts of the cue.^ 9:23 in. Might be tracked from a prior Fielding-scored episode.^ 13:00 in.^ 15:43 in. 20:26 in.^ 26:35 in.^ 28:52 in. And more bustling brass work after the commercial break.^ 31:21 in. This just doesn't readily sound like Fielding to me; maybe it was additional music by another composer, or tracked from another series.^ 36:52 in.^ 48:27 in. "Primal Scream" By: Jerry Fielding https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x51hpm2 Highlight: 2:20 in.^ 4:10 in.^ 13:10 in.^ 15:36 in.^ 21:51 in.^ 23:04 in.^ 26:59/28:26 in.^ 29:33 in.^ 34:33 in.^ 40:30 in.^ 42:27 in.^ Jamies Farr guest stars a little. (NtM: 2:10) "The Trevi Collection" By: Jerry Fielding https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-14+-+The+Trevi+Collection.mp4 Highlight: 1:06 in.^(open) 3:16 in.^ 9:40 in. 15:19 in.^ 18:50 in.^ 20:58 in.^ 23:06 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 27:07 in. 28:32 in.^ 34:22 in.^ 40:05 in.^ 46:38 in.^ (NtM: 11:46) "Chopper" By: Jerry Fielding https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-15+-+Chopper.mp4 Highlight: 7:01 in.^ 11:41 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(second) 17:01 in.^ 29:32 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both) 40:09 in.^ 44:35/48:43 in.^ 4:08 in: Tracked from a prior Fielding-scored episode. This is the third time this cue has been tracked.

Finishing SEASON 1:
"Demon in Lace" By: Gil Melle and Jerry Fielding (yes, they are both credited together, and in that order) https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-16+-+Demon+In+Lace.mp4 Highlight: 1:07 in.^ 8:36 in.^ 9:37 in.^ 10:41 in.^ 14:42 in.^ 17:00 in.^ 25:05 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 32:45 in.^ 36:55 in.^ 43:59 in.^ 48:45 in.^ I'm going to assume there's little to no original score and the reason both composers are credited, is because it's tracked from both. 2:40 in: There's that same cue again. This is the fourth time it's been tracked. If it keeps getting tracked, I may be able to make a nearly clean copy of it. (NtM: 40:31, 49:54) "Well, there's no law against droppin' dead." "Legacy of Terror" By: Gil Melle and Jerry Fielding (yes, they are both credited together, and in that order) https://ok.ru/video/5591991061133 This is the final episode to have both composers credited, and also the final on screen credit for Melle. Highlight: 2:17 in. And the cue after the commercial break (which may be tracked).^ 11:04 in.^ 13:41 in.^ 15:20 in.^ 32:53 in.^ 36:51 in.^ 39:08 in.^ 42:27 in.^ 44:51 in. Part of the cue is tracked from the one with the giant Indian.^ Annoyed, "Carl, you're full of good questions today." Kolchak: "Yeah, and you know what you're full of?" "The Knightly Murders" By: Jerry Fielding https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-18+-+The+Knightly+Murders.mp4 Highlight: 1:22 in.^ 9:49 in.^ 12:07 in.^ 18:44 in.^ 21:26 in.^ 24:26 in.^ 27:57 in. 35:55 in.^ 44:15 in.^ "Kolchak" is a Polish name, according to Kolchak. Imagine a sophisticated robbery using ancient magic and spirits, which Kolchak has to investigate, where he in the process meets Banacek. 2:06 in: I think this is tracked from a prior Fielding-scored episode. (NtM: 39:41) "The Youth Killer" By: Gil Melle https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-19+-+The+Youth+Killer.mp4 Highlight: 1:37 in.^ 14:11 in.^ 19:19 in.^ 24:24 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 37:45 in.^ 45:12 in.^ 3:44 in: This should be tracked from a prior Fielding-scored episode. "The Sentry" (final episode) By: Jerry Fielding https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-20+-+The+Sentry.mp4 Highlight: 1:24 in. Action music opens this cue with fast-paced strings and percussion.^ 9:44 in.^ 12:02 in.^ 28:01 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(second) 37:52 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ 41:09 in.^ 42:48 in.^ 44:41 in.^ 48:30 in. Lord that costume is awful. Almost reptile "Star Trek"-level bad. 5:32 in: This should be tracked from a prior Fielding-scored episode. 15:15: tracked. I think this is part of that cue that's been tracked four times, as previously mentioned. 33:37 in: sounds like an edit job. I think I hear part of the cue that's been tracked maybe (including this one) six times now, and part of the big Indian music (for example). (NtM: 11:56) And that concludes the series. There were two fake TV movies, which were nothing more than edit jobs of episodes of the series. There were no spin-off's, continuations, or reboots. There was, however, a remake in 2005. See you Tuesday for that series. By the way, a third TV movie was written but not filmed: https://darrenmcgavin.net/kolchak-the-night-stalker-the-unproduced-scripts/ In 2012 Disney had a script commissioned for a film version to star Johnny Depp: https://deadline.com/2012/05/d-v-devincentis-sinks-teeth-into-the-night-stalker-275128/ In 2014 Edgar Wright was going to be the director. No further news passed 2014 could be found. The project apparently died years ago. Not content with not doing a needless remake, currently Wright is set to direct a remake of "The Running Man".

"The Vampire" By: Gil Melle https://archive.org/details/kolchak-4/KOLCHAK-04+-+The+Vampire.mp4 Highlight: 2:11 in.^ 7:03 in.^ 9:39 in. The source music on the radio.^ 22:35 in.^ 28:55 in. Short dramatic outtro cue.^ 34:21 in.^ 37:42 in.^ 43:35 in.^ 46:09 in.^ 50:09 in.^ FYI, in this specific episode there is a source cue for solo piano in a scene in a bar that is Melle's Theme from "Columbo" that is really sort of cool Ford A. I was listening to score from the first episode Fielding scored, "The Werewolf", and noticed something I didn't hear before. During a long cue there is a section with just lower octave piano stabs, interspaced with silence. Today I heard what sounds like a foot tapping on the floor to keep beat, instead of a metronome.

Yes, I heard that too!

Small addition: The foot tapping is heard again in another cue. Same lower octave piano stabs, but this time strings underneath.
