RAMBO: THE JERRY GOLDSMITH VINYL COLLECTION
Music By Jerry Goldsmith

PRE-ORDER, availability date 11/7/2022

Limited edition: 1000 units - FEWER THAN 200 UNITS IN STOCK!

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Studio Canal, Light in the Attic and the kind collaboration of Intrada, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the blockbuster FIRST BLOOD with RAMBO: THE JERRY GOLDSMITH VINYL COLLECTION, a mammoth 5-LP box set that includes Jerry Goldsmith’s powerful music for the original RAMBO trilogy, presented for the first time in expanded form on vinyl!

Based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel of the same name, FIRST BLOOD stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo. The Ted Kotcheff directed film was released in 1982 and immediately became a megahit that generated two sequels in 1985 and 1988, completing a trilogy until the character was brought back by Stallone in 2008 and 2019. The iconic character of Rambo evolved from a persecuted Vietnam veteran in the first film to a reluctant government operative and then a mercenary in Afghanistan in the later installments.

Jerry Goldsmith wrote a stunning, dark and heavy, almost crushing score for FIRST BLOOD, although he also composed a memorable melancholy theme (“It’s A Long Road”) that identified Rambo’s loneliness. The series and music turned more towards action and adventure in RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II and RAMBO III, including exotic atmospheres and impressive passages of action music, ranking among Goldsmith’s greatest efforts in the genre.

Using stereo mixes provided by Douglass Fake and our friends at Intrada, this collection has been newly produced for vinyl by Neil S. Bulk, with mastering by Chris Malone.

The package comes with an exclusive hard box that includes 5-color LPs pressed on audiophile 180 gm vinyl, packaged in three separate gatefold jackets featuring the original poster artwork by Renato Casaro, and a 12-page booklet with in-depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond.

That's the first pass cover. It was corrected months ago and has been updated on the website as well.

I’m not a fan of vinyl even when that was the only game in town. Surface noise and limited dynamic ranges never appealed to me. I was happy when CDs came Out in the late 80s. I recognize this package is a lovely collectors item but I don’t feel the need to drop tons of $$$ to get it.

What a powerful release!!! Educate an ignorant man here. Was an expanded Rambo III ever released on CD?

This set is a huge must buy.

Wow, what a gorgeous presentation and highly collectible 1000Ltd Jerry Goldsmith memorabilia !
Totally unexpected. Immediate order directly at Quartet. I am a FIRST BLOOD completist.

But why 2 threads for the same thing within 5 minutes of delay??

1st thread by Lokutus October 20th, 12:35PM:
https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=149511&forumID=1&archive=0

2nd thread by Amer Zahid October 20th, 12:40PM:
https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=149512&forumID=1&archive=0

Now with both threads for the same thing, we gonna have to switch from a thread to another during all the remaining time until this set release date...! This is ridiculous...to say the least.

I am sorry but Lokutus was the 1st on this.
May be Amer should have filled in Lokutus' thread instead of creating a new one to challenge the previous thread?
What I understand is that everyone wants to be on the top of a thread with a scoop. Is this the issue?

Thats because I didn't see he had already posted as I was updating the 2 other threads simultaneously while preparing this one...

A duplicate thread will only create more excitement and interest for this grand release .So no harm done. No offense to Lokutus either.

To Peter, re RAMBO...
Yes, Intrada expanded RAMBO 3 on CD more than once, while improving the sonics every time.
Their first CD edition sounded a bit muddy, but subsequent releases have been excellent.
I doubt the sonics on these LP editions will be as good.

I think adjustments have to be made to accommodate the limitations of the Vinyl format analogue speaking. Its a different ball game. Its aquired taste. Best of both worlds.

Perhaps the best answer can be provided by Neil S Bulk.

I still read comments about awful, crackly sounding vinyl releases to new scores now on Amazon, so it's still a crap shoot and no ball game I'm ever gonna bother playing again (even if I did love and care for my LP collection when I was a sperm).

Per the press release, the stereo mixes were provided to us by Intrada. Samples are on the product page.

Neil, I have no doubt great care and attention has gone into the pressing of these LPs by Quartet and all the people involved.
My problems stem from all those years (roughly 1977 to 1987) of hearing the stylus meet the vinyl and the potential (surface and otherwise) noises that would ensue* in comparison to 1987 and beyond, when I would press play on my CD player and hear a world of difference.
I know many people love vinyl and hear more warmth and such like, and more power to them, but once I met CDs, there was no going back.

*that's not to say all LPs I bought sounded bad, cos plenty sounded very good indeed., but never as clean or clear as CD, by direct comparison.

Perhaps I misunderstood. You said, "Their first CD edition sounded a bit muddy, but subsequent releases have been excellent. I doubt the sonics on these LP editions will be as good." I thought you meant the mixing and mastering, but it seems you meant the surface noise of vinyl.
