This may surprise a lot of you, but Neundorf and Tapia de Veer have worked together much in the past and into today. I also noticed that a piece from Tapia de Veer's The Girl With All the Gifts made a recurring appearance in the 2nd season (usually underscoring Aubrey Plaza's psychological state trying to discern if her husband is telling the truth). Anyway, another great score from some very unique voices in modern film/TV scoring.
I tried watching the first episode of this, after all the attention it got, but it was all too "soapy" for my taste. Not my cuppa tea. I'm a BIG fan of Tapia de Veer, but don't feel this is his best work. I prefer him when he's all-out crazy in things like UTOPIA, REAL HUMANS etc.
We loved season 2 in my household. In general we are huge fans of Mike White so I suppose we have some bias but season 2 was still stellar as far as production and cast go. My only complaint would be that I missed the time spent with the workers of the establishment though this season was more interested in pivoting to other classes and their interaction with tourists and the ease to run a con upon the self-obsessed.
Well...The show is great...even though the 3rd season is the weakest so far for me.Nevertheless, I have to say ,that all seasons are almost ruined by the constant tapestry of songs or score.I think it's really really bad in terms of musical timing and there are scenes which would be much better without any music at all.So..only in my opinion..the composer failed big time ..not in content but in the sheer overuse...its bad.
Anyone else hearing Brainstorm in the recurring slow, creepy choral motif that plays throughout the show? For example in the scene where Parker Posey's character is explaining to her children that she's not meant to live an uncomfortable life at her age.
I somehow missed the first two seasons but have been watching the third because a friend of mine is in it.
I'm really enjoying it! Doesn't seem soapy to me (at least not this season) – it's a very dry comedy of manners about pretty awful people.
Maybe if you don't know people like that, it would be lost on you, but I'm sorry to say that I do. (I don't know Mike White, who created the show, but he lives up the block from me, which may account for our common detestable people.)
And all the talk about the new season 3 theme being too different from the others? It included the familiar melody as recorded, but Mike White took that part out!
