What is going on at Varese seriously? Placed my order on the 18th and still not shipped and they don't answer emails.

Same here, they’re supposed to ship within 5 - 7 business days.

This is why I refuse to order through them anymore. The extra $5 spent getting their releases through other stores is worth the headache saved.

Definitely doing that next time. This is ridiculous. I ordered Conan weeks after LA Confidential and I’ve already received Conan. Was really hoping to have this in time to listen over my holiday break. Looks like that’s not happening. I ordered this thing one month ago immediately after they announced. I’ll order from Intrada next time. This is sketchy.

Other than the opening notes of the main theme of ON THE WATERFRONT (and the rythmic/stylistic similarities of the pounding violence in "Bloody Christmas"), L.A.'s main theme takes a different direction in thematic and melodic content in the rest of its development. I think this is the reason that Mr. Goldsmith never acknowledged any plagiarism or stylistic influence on his behalf, although the main thematic affinity (intentionally, most probably) gives the latter score a certain 50's air and authenticity...

Cool.

Interesting comparison.

Howe did you come to this conclusion?

Have you been listening to On The Waterfront?

Have to hear "Bloody Christmas" with this premise again!

It's been mentioned in various reviews since the original release of the film and soundtrack. Yes, I have been listening to ON THE WATERFRONT for some time lately and have to admit that although the influence is quite clear, both scores take quite different rythmic, thematic and stylistic directions after the opening 5 or 6 notes of the main theme. "Bloody Christmas" shares the tympani pounding violence of the opening track of OTW, however the composition is different. Here's the audio for your reference:

Thanks for the explanation.

Listened to both again.

You are right.

In future I have to listen more attentive to film music ... .

DAMMIT! I got the song album just because the Badge Of Honor theme was on it... now this release finally has it!

We couldn't include "Badge Of Honor" on this album because of a rights issue. Hold onto the song album!

I just dug out my old copy of the OST and gave it a listen. Never realised that the Badge Of Honor cue was in mono?

“L.A. Comfidential The Deluxe Edition” can now be streamed from a library via the Hoopla website.

It was mixed in mono. We planned on issuing it in stereo. Alas...

Oh dear...
And let's me guess - even if that song album will ever be re-released, they will used old masters, and we will never get stereo version of this 20 second cue?

I’ve played the hell out of this. Sounds great. I really like “The Facts”

Just got around to playing it and it is really impressive. Easily my favorite Goldsmith score in the post-Under Fire years.

Also, the original soundtrack is a nice album with the Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker Quartet and Lee Wiley, so having to get it for Badge of Honor is not such a bad thing.

Anyone know where the Badge Of Honor cue appears in the film? I watched it just recently and never noticed it.
Also if anyone has a chrono track list of the score + songs, that would be nice.
Thanks.

Seriously, you never watch the end credits? You know now where you can find it.

Obviously not right through to the end, no! Never saw that bit. Must have always bailed beforehand.
Thanks.

I love Varese and all the labels and everything they do to get these releases out.

But that cover. It looks like a nineties bootleg cover.

I couldn't say it better! What is this for an "artwork"?
How is it possible such bad taste in design and layout!?
Any Varese Deluxe Edition deserves better.

Why doesn't it look like this instead, that question haunts me....?
Thanks for these Goldsmith fan made alternate artworks btw.

The first two have Kevin Spacey, so they weren't going to happen and the third is generic, so I'd say it was an appropriate cover they chose.

Do you still happen to have this custom album cover?
