From a 1985 interview w/Gene Shalit for "Today", featuring Williams conducting the famous "Mission" theme that's been heard across NBC News programs since 1985:

Great interview!

I couldn't help but notice the recording studio layout with the musicians separated into groups and that horrible 80s carpeting. Anyone know where the recording was taking place?

I wonder about that too, as well as who played on the sessions.

I've been comparing pictures of the big stages near that time and the best I've come up with is Paramount M. Though I'm by no means certain.

The stage Williams is on looks similar, down to the colors and wall paneling, as you see in this footage of Goldsmith recording Star Trek V. Also looks like the same conductor's podium and same big green clock on it (though in different places).

But its so hard to tell.

I thought one possibility would be Paramount Stage M, but then again I've never seen the inside of it before.
