The recent spate of Scandi Film Composer threads got me skimming through the ol' collection, seeing who I had from the Lands of Takk and Ja.
I don't quite remember where I bought this score, but I think it was somewhere in Finland (it was in a Sale bin in a supermarket and it's even autographed by 3 people on the front cover - looks like the 3 cover poster actors).
I like to buy a score CD, whenever possible, from my various holiday jaunts, as a keepsake/memory and possible 'new discovery'.
It's a very solid orchestral score, performed by the LSO and Metro Voices.
It's in line with the Howard Shore stuff from LOTR, very influential around that time.
I should check out more Kantelinen music on the strength of this CD.
The Scandi Winner for me was Soren Hyldgaard with a whopping 5 CD's in my collection (if you discount a-ha) wink

I like the song from the film too, which recalls the one from THE TWO TOWERS (it's not written by TK)

Any other fans out there?

I have it , Mr. Mc. I think it's a copy off someone. Not sure, have to check. I also , as result of it, have about 3/4 others by him. His snow queen ballet is quite good.

I think Arn is my favorite Kantelinen score (followed by Lumikuningatar)...it would be nice if more of his stuff was released. For something a little different, his Italian Key is really lovely.

I sampled some more TK scores this morning on YouTube while working.
I didn't care for MONGOL or THE ADVENTURERS, but I really liked MOTHER OF MINE and PROMISE was quite nice too.

There's one called the quest for 'something or other', animation.

I gave this a spin some months back. Wasn't expecting what I heard at all. Thought it was going to be just another one of those sterile Scandinavian synth scores sifting scraps from Zimmer's stockpile.

I'd recommend Kantelinen's The Legend of Hercules. Zimmerish, but with more flair.
