a little disappointed to find that STEALTH SHOOT-OUT has music in the part that was dialed out in the film - while the score was suppose to be like this it ultimately had more impact the way it was in the film with the rytmic part only - was hoping to hear this

or at least have that version included which was that i was looking forward to hear

Neil, do you have any documentation above where k.d.lang recorded her vocal?

I seem to recall that some local Toronto paper at the time claimed that it was recorded at Metalworks studios in Mississauga, Ontario, just outside of Toronto? If so, it was within walking distance of my former home.

According to page 215 of Jon Burlingame's terrific book, The Music of James Bond:

"Lang's vocal was originally recorded in Los Angeles, but for complex tax reasons involving the film, had to be re-recorded in Toronto"

Thanks. I missed that sentence in his book. Burlingame's book is a treasure trove of information.

Thanks again to LaLa Land for this release. It's so good.

Really love that Surrender song much much more than the title song we got. I'm glad it at least made the closing credits.

"Surrender" is a masterful song but I think the title track song is also quite good. It seems like quite a success too as it charted in nearly every country imaginable.

Totally agree. I'm not dissing the title song by Sheryl Crow at all. It's pretty good and definitely one of the better ones we've gotten. Also, Sheryl Crow was really big at that time so yeah, financially, I'm sure it made sense and a great amount of money, etc. But you can tell that Arnold wrote a very "Bondian" sounding song in the mold of Barry with the score themes from the movie incorporated into the song, and I just think it works better. I ran across someone putting an edited version of Surrender over the title sequence on youtube and when the glass breaks from the jet exhaust and that big horn intro sounds on the title credits scene, the song catapults in my mind.

Again, not knocking Sheryl Crow's song, but Surrender, in my mind, is a better song for the movie. I think lyrically, to me, Surrender is more interetsing too and even is more eerie and applicable today with the idea of people and people at news organizations trying to sway and control minds through narratives that they want out there. Although, lyrically, the Sheryl Crow TND is VERY late 90's sounding. Just my two cents.

Truth be told, we did discuss internally putting Surrender on as the title song (Neil, Matt and I are huge fans of that song) and shifting the Crow song to the end titles, but in the end we opted to stick to the original presentation.

And that was a good choice.

And that was a good choice.

Agreed. As much as I love the song, and how it would play in its intended position, and hate Sheryl Crow's, it would have been inappropriate to switch them.
