YOU PEOPLE---trailer released for the Netflix comedy movie starring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy.

BLACK ADAM---the Dwayne Johnson movie earned $387 million globally. With its $195 million production budget and a marketing budget of $80 million-$100 million, BLACK ADAM could lose $50 million-$100 million.

BLONDE---director Andrew Dominik commented on criticism of his Marilyn Monroe biomovie starring Ana de Armas, "Now we’re living in a time where it’s important to present women as empowered, and they want to reinvent Marilyn Monroe as an empowered woman. That’s what they want to see. And if you’re not showing them that, it upsets them...Which is kind of strange, because she’s dead. The movie doesn’t make any difference in one way or another. What they really mean is that the film exploited their memory of her, their image of her, which is fair enough. But that’s the whole idea of the movie. It’s trying to take the iconography of her life and put it into service of something else, it’s trying to take things that you’re familiar with, and turning the meaning inside out. But that’s what they don’t want to see.”

GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE---Gil Kenan (MONSTER HOUSE) will direct the AFTERLIFE sequel.

DAHMER-MONSTER: THE JEFFREY DAHMER STORY---the miniseries has one billion viewing hours in 60 days which allows it to join STRANGER THINGS and SQUID GAME.

GEORGE & TAMMY---the Showtime miniseries premiere had 3.3 million viewers which makes it Showtime's biggest premiere ever.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS---Hayley Atwell said she wants to see more of Peggy Carter in the MCU after her cameo in THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, “It was definitely not, you know, the trajectory that I see for Peggy. I would definitely like her to have more to do. It depends on what Marvel and what the audiences want.
I’m a custodian of her. Compared to the rest of my career and everything I’ve done or my stage work and doing Mission: Impossible now and all the diversity of roles I’ve played, and the diversity that I get to explore, and to be able to play more complex roles and villains and lots of different things – she is not mine anymore.
She lives in a world of people that have taken her into their heart. And that’s beautiful. But it’s kind of like: yeah, you can’t control the impact a particular role has on the rest of the world.”

TRIVIA---in the opening scene of STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, Lt. Saavik takes the Starfleet Academy Kobayashi Maru training exercise, a no-win scenario involving a distress signal from the stricken freighter Kobayashi Maru. The Kobayashi Maru was named after WRATH OF KHAN writer Jack B. Sowards' ex-neighbors.
The real SS Kabayashi Maru is a bulk carrier named after the WRATH OF KHAN fictional freighter and was launched in 2019. It has a length of 656', and its home port is Durban, South Africa.

Geez, you can't make them happy- ever.

Unfortunately Dominick's film isn't very good, or interesting, but he blames the response on his (and, moreover, Joyce Carol Oates') treatment/depiction of his subject on his audience. He had nothing of interest to say about Marilyn Monroe as a person or subjugation in the entertainment industry. It is just a series of pretty pictures and decent actors. Bob Fosse's Star 80 and David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me are vastly more enlightened and harrowing films. And they punch you in the gut. Blonde, like so many other hyped streaming movies, just leaves you bored.

I would be remiss to add that I am the brother of a massive, lifelong Monroe fan – and my wife's dear best friend might as well be slotted next to Ben Mankiewicz on TCM for her knowledge and love of classic Hollywood – Dominick and Oates seem entirely unaware or uninterested in Monroe's autonomy in her own life. They have no foresight of her own image control or business decisions she parlayed through her life and success. To them, she is a pretty doll to whip and abuse to deliver the most obvious parable of all: Hollywood is self-destructive.

That's earned theatrically, right?

I wonder if a great deal of the population now waits for a media release on many titles, instead of trundling forth on studio command to a theater.

I haven't yet seen it, I'm waiting for the mailed disc. I have no preconceptions, though just on the basis of basic humanity, I hope the film is good and does well. I have confidence that this show will be at least of a certain caliber.

Also... isn't 195 plus 100 only 295 (mil)? So how does that equal a "loss" when the $295 mil movie "only made" $387 mil globally? Where I went to school, that looks like a $90 mil profit... likely less any media sales.

Movie studios have to share profit with theatrical exhibitors. They also had a huge marketing budget that is not factored into the $195 million. For mega budget movies to go "into the black," in 2022's market, they need to triple their budget. James Cameron has said recently that if Avatar: The Way of Water doesn't break the prior film's record, they will not have made any profit whatsoever.

Did he blame the audience? He simply said the audience criticized his betrayal of MM. Star 80 may have had more of a "gut punch" but the protagonist was treated the exact same way. A helpless wallflower with no autonomy.

Huh. Well, maybe they'll sell discs like gangbusters come January.

"The movie doesn’t make any difference in one way or another."

There's how you sell tickets!

This movie marketed by the Neutral planet leader from "Futurama": I have no strong feelings about my film one way or the other. Tell my audience to maybe go see it.
