I came across a copy of Intrada's The Lone Ranger at my local public library this evening. So I borrowed it and took it home. I'm listening to it as I type this. It's ok but doesn't really thrill me. I ripped it to my laptop though.

I only bring this up because the various reviews I read of this CD online were so ooohh and ahhhh that I was expecting a lot more. Once again this shows the importance of listening yourself to make up your own mind.

An aberration, that's all. Thor had a lot of time on his hands that day. /s

The cue Finale is absolutely fantastic. It was arranged entirely by Geoff Zanelli, though.

Very happy to admit to being one of those in the oohs and ahhs bracket. I did indeed think the whole album was sublime. Whenever I see criticism of the composer I just think of The Lone Ranger and remember it's a standout in my collection. I had it on endless loop at one point and never got bored.

If only his Batman scores were half as good. And yes, the finale is an all time best version of the well known piece intertwined nicely with his own themes. And whatever one thinks of farming out stuff to composers under his company wing, the choice of person is also down to him, and part of a professional judgement along with his own skills as a composer. The combination of the two here, is a winner.

Same here, I love the album!

I, too, think it's a fantastic score. Zimmer was on a roll in 2013 with this, Man of Steel and Rush.

I've posted about this album recently, it's a very hard to find & really (really!!) expensive CD (over £150!!). I'm not a Zimmer fan, so wasn't bothered, but I do love the film, I think it's brilliant (& I can't stand the Pirates movies), so after watching the Blu-ray for the 3rd or 4th time, I thought I'd buy the soundtrack (my first Zimmer) & ended up downloading it from Amazon (only £10, that's more like it), & love it. Maybe Intrada will release an extended version one day (the film is two & a half hours long & there's tons of music in it).

Wasn't going to say why it was endless loop before, as it was while I was decorating a room, and thought it might get howls of derision as if it was it was fit for, lol. But actually that's a brilliant space for listening to music I find, when we might be busy elsewhere and have to concentrate more.

So having seen the love I can admit all! I second the motion of an expanded edition, though hope that Thor's assertion that it can poil an otherwise perfect album ain't the case here. Anyway I have the original if that happens. Fortunately I bought it on release.

But yeah the movie was a victim of circumstance. Unfair reviews, a building annoyance with Depp's style (in some quarters, not to mention his impeding troubles). I too didn't think it needed shackling with the modern day framing sequence, nor the minor fantasy gags. But overall I loved it. I just wish it's success hadn't been sabotaged by the hateful American critics.

I had nothing against the Pirates films, but this was a chance to move on with a different franchise, and one that should have happened. The main character would then have chance to shine in sequels where he wasn't quite the hapless comic part he was at times, and we would have a few more decent Zimmer scores to enjoy.

A tragedy of recent cinema history for me. The only upside being the opposite of what happened to the soundtrack cd, I picked the Blu ray up for next to nothing!

Yep, I was one of naysayers when the film came out, without even seeing it (unforgivable!). Then it came on the telly & I recorded it, but when I tried to watch it, there was something wrong with the recording & I only had the first half hour, but I really liked what I saw, so I bought the Blu-ray (s/h only £2) & was surprised how much I enjoyed it, & I enjoyed it more each time I've watched it. For an almost comedy western, it's quite dark in places...I did end up buying a new Blu-ray, & that was only £4 (I won't hold my breath for a 4K release).

Haven't played it in years, but I liked it when it came out (as opposed to the film, which I had more issues with). Decent running time too, at 50 minutes.

There is a decent used copy on Amazon for 30 bucks. It’s Disney so I doubt it will be re-released.
