SEASON 1:

Relatively short-lived series from 1992.

Theme music by Laurence Rosenthal.

I should note: a serious problem with releasing scores from this series are that many many many cues go on for several minutes, meaning even highlight compilations would skip so much great material. You'd have to damn near practically release the complete score to ever episode, and I don't see that ever happening. Or maybe ten years after the Earth crashes into the sun.

"The Curse of the Jackal, Egypt 1908"
By: Laurence Rosenthal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9YEQt0dvTs (episode load contains both episodes as one feature-length version)

Highlights:
  • 0:47 in.^
  • 5:49 in.
  • 9:39 in. This cue fell short of being thirteen minutes long!^(open/10:47/12:00/13:44/16:41/21:04/22:10)
  • 23:45 in.
  • 25:33 in.^(/27:33/31:20/39:10)

Indy was born in 1899. And we see the dog he took the name from.

"The Curse of the Jackal, Mexico, March 1916"

  • 44:50 in.^(48:30)
  • 50:45 in.^(53:55/58:24)
  • 1:02:08 in.^
  • 1:04:09 in. Including a tone pyramid.^
  • 1:06:19 in.^
  • 1:07:01 in.^(1:08:58)
  • 1:16:18 in. Short solo Spanish guitar cue.^
  • 1:16:55 in.^
  • 1:19:27 in.^(open/1:23:01/1:25:00)

    Rosenthal did a wonderful job.

If it's anything television has taught us: Hookmen are evil.

"There is only one rule, Indiana: stay alive."

"They all steal your chickens. The only thing to change is the name of the man who takes them."
(that whole scene with Indy realizing he got caught up and didn't really know what he was doing, with the speech from the chicken farmer, is really just a great scene)

    Continuing SEASON 1:

Another Note: or a matter of time, I won't be covering episodes that had scores released. Anything missing you are free to point out, but I am conserving my time for other projects.

    "London, May 1916"
    By: Joel McNeely
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgIy8IqON-c

    Highlights:
  • 1:32 in.
  • 7:07 in.^
  • 9:12 in.^(12:08)
  • 24:28 in.^
  • 30:21 in.^(32:22)
  • 34:09 in.
  • 37:37 in.^
  • 39:23 in. Followed by the special end credits music.^

While the feature-length pilot score was performed by the Skywalker Orchestra, this one is credited to the Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra (and recorded at three places: Bavaria Music Studio, Lansdowne Studios, and Arco Studios).

Multiple cues from this episode score was released on Volume 2 from Varese Sarabande, back in 1992. I accidentally covered the score before realizing my mistake, so I decided to go ahead and post it anyway.

This and another episode were edited together to make a fake new TV movie, titled "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Love's Sweet Song".

Even though this was created by George Lucas and is supposed to be the same Indy, only in his early life, this Indy displays far more knowledge that Ford's older one ever did. Ford's character doesn't even hint at all these abilities, from speaking fluently in multiple languages, knowing how electricity words, MacGyvering inventions, etc.

    (NtM: composer credit: 0:54 in)

"You're the worst liar I've ever met ... welcome to the Belgium army."
(probably still how you get requited into the Belgium army today ... ;-)

I'm surprised Varese haven't revisited these releases as club titles.

These rights issues are often more complex than I want to ever look into, but on the face of it, should this be Disney property now? Meaning if Varese didn't hold the rights, Intrada would be the one. Or at least be the one to do episodes not covered by Varese.

    EDIT:
Roger was asked about this in a 2015 interview shortly after Disney got it, and he wasn't sure and said they'd have to wait and see. Well, seven years later and I guess "No" was probably the answer.

I recently accessed the music from the Premiere episodes which were ripped from an Indiana Jones video game (I think).Just blown away by the music. It deserves to be given cull regal treatment and officially released. The entire series deserves to be released in complete form. The Varese cds are just readers digest type of score presentations in rather abbreviated form. I'd love to see Intrada take a go at it.

I'm perfectly pleased with the four CDs we have (that is, in itself, very impressive for a single TV show, don't you think?), but I wouldn't be opposed to more volumes out there.

Yeah, we already know you're satisfied. You pull the string on the Thor See 'n Say talking wheel and it says that.

Four CD's impressive for one show? In the 1990's, yeah, but after years of La La Land Records doing it, not so much anymore. Not common place, mind you, but no longer impressive.

A complete set of this is a holy grail of mine. I was primarily introduced to the music via LEGO Indiana Jones, but have since watched several episodes of the series.

Out of the many cues used in the games (at least a dozen, most likely more), maybe 3 or 4 of them have been released.

    Finishing SEASON 1:

    "Congo, January 1917"

  • 22:19 in.^(open)
  • 25:04 in.^

  • 38:33 in. And the special end credits piece which immediately follow.^(41:11/42:55)

McNeely did a wonderful job. And the episode is particularly touching.
The score was performed by the Munich Symphony Orchestra. Recorded and mixed at: Bavaria Music Studio and Lansdowne Studios.

Multiple cues from this episode score was released on Volume 2 from Varese Sarabande, back in 1992. I accidentally covered the score before realizing my mistake, so I decided to go ahead and post it anyway.

So ... since the months and years are in the titles, in less than a year Indy went from joining the military, to being hell and mutiny, to being a superior officer, and traveling on missions in small numbers. Hell, in a few more months he might be able to take over for Patton.

Indy: "Bureaucrats will be the death of us all..."

I checked in with them again last year and they were still trying to figure out how they were going to handle the franchise, so the answer was still no. For now....

You know what he real hard part is to believe? A mail carrier has time to stand around and listen to a long story.

Thanks for not giving up! There is now some unreleased music culled from the Video game isolated which should indicate that the music is in demand. Lets hope something good comes out this 2023 Indy year!

Another wonderful effort. Talgorn should have gotten more work like this after working on this series.

Hey, you know who else should be offered a chance to score an episode of "The Orville"?

The smarter thing to do would to have put the bodies in the tunnel, since it wasn't shown to be found; that way the NAZI's aren't sure how the escape was made, and it could theoretically be pulled off again. I should also note that all the bragging grandpa Indy did about being able to make any escape, was just that -- bragging; he didn't come up with any of the ideas, he followed.

It just occurred to me: If they ever made anymore TV movies about young Indy, Harrison Ford is now old enough to be grandpa Indy.

"I hope these visual aides will make things more clear..."

No. Something like half a dozen orchestras. Just today I watched one with an Australian orchestra credited.
