My wife, daughter, and mother-in-law loved it. As did three of my friends. Why the contempt?
I haven't seen it, but considering James L. Brooks produced this, I'd imagine its probably at least decent without all the self-important stuff. His movies are exactly what I was saying previously, which is emotionally honest and straightforward, with plenty of wit.
He didn't direct this, but the trailer looks pretty honest regarding acting + writing.
