I think it's going to be even worse than Thor does! I'm betting they credit John Williams with the music from "Star Track," and the only licensed music will be the Pickwick Orchestra and Chorus playing "Theme from Star Wars," and half of it is going to be accidentally about John Williams the guitarist.

I'm more cynical, and therefore even cooler, than Thor!

If John Williams doesn't want his private life exposed to public view (and obviously he's still with us) I don't think we have any right to see or hear it.
It will be nice to see some background footage of the maestro at work on various projects and yes, his friends and colleagues will gush (I don't expect to hear any filmmaker or musician say 'he's a prick')*.
I'm looking forward to it.
Williams needs as much exposure as he can get big grin

* It would be funny to hear Goldsmith calling him 'such a snob' wink

I agree. We have a right to see only what he wants. That was certainly the tenor of the Spielberg documentary…only what he wants. But that is rarely interesting.

Plus for composers, when you are a film composer who only works as a hired hand on other people’s projects, who are you as an artist? What is beyond the work-for-hire craftsman? I’m really just wondering. With the composers who took the time to write their own music, you are able to see themes in their work which begin to show you who they really are…not just as artists but as people.

In other words I love John Williams. I really do. But also I know almost nothing about John Williams and therefore what is inside the music…other than just being good music. It’s a half-told tale.

I wish he had put himself out there a few more times outside of film music. The dozens concertos don’t tell us much…and things like Thomas and The King aren’t very good. Who is John Williams…for those of us who care? I hope this movie gives us something on that front. It doesn’t have to be about his personal life.

I do not expect much but I hope tha Spielberg will surprise me. He has done exactly that too many times.
Fingers crossed.

Exactly as we all feared – that trailer completely lacks complex musical analysis, condemnation from colleagues, and interviews with Puccini about Williams' impact!

Yup, pretty much exactly as I had pictured this -- a cursory, superficial glance with endless adulations. But I'll give it a tiny wincy benefit of the doubt for now, as it's just a trailer. I liked the little glimpses of his family life in there.

I remember both Randy Newman and David Newman in interviews....That when you hire John Williams to score your film, you will get a John Williams Score!

Without a Doubt.

There are some very rare exceptions

Images (One of One, Never Went Back)
The Sugarland Express
The Missouri Breaks (Film Version)
CEOTK (Around 50%)
