Saturday night I heard the world premiere of this exciting, vibrant 25-minute orchestral powerhouse.

Puts has a Pulitzer Prize for an opera and several recordings of his works. I saw another performed last fall.

One of the sections featured a hunting motif powered by three sets of drums and urgent horn calls.

Puts was present and received a prolonged standing ovation from his hometwon audience (St. Louis) as did the SLSO and their conductor, Stephane Deneve.

I will be anxiously awaiting a CD release.

Orchestral fans should give this young (born 1972) composer a listen.

As someone entering their late 30s and not feeling the same energy he used to, it’s good to know that 50s is considered young! smile

Puts is a very good composer and I look forward to hearing this work.

Puts has a Pulitzer Prize for an opera…

Silent Night that strongly reminds me of Benjamin Britten's vocal writing for Peter Grimes as well as his War Requiem.

Kevin is an absolutely fantastic composer. His works have a very strong film-like quality and he's a professed John Williams fan.

I talked with him a couple of years ago for the Legacy of JW podcast, check it out here:

Puts is a strong composer. I often find that Concertos for Orchestra bring out the best in their composers. Another great recent one is the Liebermann.

At the concert Deneve did say that the performance was being recorded for future use--probably radio broadcast. But I do hope a CD recording will emerge.

I've just heard his concert work Contact (in Dolby Atmos, no less!) and it's fantastic!
