This astonishing version of the plays with George Segal and Nicol Williamson has finally become available on DVD from Amazon. It is as powerful and heartbreaking as it was when I watched it in eight grade, one of the few times one revisits something from your youth and is not disappointed in the memory! It has a lovely score (not close to Copland but that's okay), which, of course, is lost forever. I was able to get one theme off of the DVD menu page, but no composer is listed on IMDB, and the video (complete with all the commercials shown on the night) has no end credits. Does any one of you incredible soundtrack historians have any idea who might be the composer?

Oh wow Jan. '68 I was in 6th grade and never knew of this version but have done a comparison of the '92 to the '39 after discovering Gary Sinise had made wisecracks at the latter. Rats, it's a lost thread. Anyway, must see this one and have reached out to reliable source in hopes of identifying composer.
