Great score. Even I would condone an expansion.

I still remember sitting in the cinema in 1996, watching that incredible opening with Zimmers theme and DeNiros poem.

I bought the CD which featured the 20 minute suite plus the song written by Zimmer.

Great film too, even though Z didn't like it. A pity this was the final collaboration between Z and Tony Scott.

Excited and anxious I await my dream
To escape, applaud And embrace my team
Opening day I always can trust
It’s just for this high That I crazily lust
Return of our hero Does brighten the days
Just briefly, my troubles Get lost in the haze
The grace from the field Arouses the crowd
Reflects on the days When I was quite proud
I’m more entranced Than the average fan
I used to play, you see And I know I still can
That time I drove the ball With such loft
My exit atop shoulders As they carried me off
This pastime and I Just fade into one
Expanded upon From father and son
My boy is young And awkward for now
I just need the time And can show him how
I really am quite close Just a break away
From straightening things out And being okay
I can help my team To regain its glory
With just a little twist To the same old story
Players say now They play for themselves
This causes a burning Within me that dwells
The fan is the one Who pays for the game
Which bestows all the riches And welcomed fame
The players will listen But really don’t hear
All the while just hiding Behind an invisible tear
I grow tired now of all this greed
And chart a course to set things free

Great score. I "mainlined" it as a listening experience almost every day for a week around October of last year. I hadn't listened to it in awhile and I was guiding my wife through Tony Scott's filmography.

My holy grail. Love the 20 minute suite and it makes for a unique listening experience, but a complete score is really needed. Love Gil's theme, the main "innocence" theme, the cello themes. And the way it all meshes with the Nine Inch Nails style music... Just a great score. Very under appreciated.

I seem to remember reading something about Hans Zimmer collapsing from exhaustion on this one and Harry Gregson-Williams and Nick Glennie-Smith stepping in and helping out. Unless I imagined reading it.

Jeff Rona wrote additional music, the beach scene for instance. HGW was conductor. NGS is not credited on imdb.

Maybe it wasn't NGS or someone got their hyphenated people wrong lol... Or he just didn't want to be credited on it. Who knows. We may never know now that the film is over 25 years old.

But the HGW story was from someone on this site. Unfortunately the search function doesn't work so great on here and I can't find the thread. It was within the last couple of years though, I remember that.

Another fun fact relating to this score, the suite on the album was assembled by composer Marc Streitenfeld.

Streitenfeld is also credited as "assistant composer" on imdb.
