Reading this interview again with the late great Roy Budd. A number of other composers are mentioned and JG was clearly a favourite. What I was shocked to read was that his film music compilation he made cost over $300k! I seem to remember it didn’t get much love when it was released either.
Good interview. Interesting that he didn't know where to put the violas. On Howard Blake's website he said in the early days of Stanley Myers's career Myers phoned him with the same question.

It did from me! I have the 2-CD version from "Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab"and they're terrific (and terrific sounding) performances of the big Williams hits at the time - Raiders, Star Wars, ET, Superman - as well as a couple of special compositions and a suite from Supergirl taken at an ungodly pace that makes Goldsmith's original sound like a funeral dirge. Somewhere I've also still got the 2-LP set that came out from BBC Records of all people.
My favourite Budd score is probably Wild Geese 2 and I was thrilled when a CD was finally released a few years back as the cassette version was knackered to unplayability.

I totally second this! I wish Roy Budd had done more of the like in the 80ies.... Plus that the Peter Hunt movie itself is terrific.
That C.D. was titled "The Final Frontier". It's a shame that he left this earth much too soon.
it certainly is. He was a brilliant talent and could compose any type of music from jazz to rock to full 100+ orchestra scores. Not many around today like him.
