I don't know exactly why, but Last Crusade has always been my least favorite of the original films, both as a movie and the score. Raiders will always be about as close to as perfect of a movie as I can imagine, and as someone else said already, it's got a edgier feel to it that was lost in the next two, even the darker Temple of Doom. It'll always be my favorite of the Indy scores, but Temple of Doom is a hard and close second. I think the original poster said something about LC being the more thematic of the Indy scores, but I'd have to argue that one - TOD has got a balls-to-the-wall non-stop frenetic, amazing score with at least 10 themes right off the top of my head, lol, and I'm not stopping to try and remember them all. I get some people being thrown off by that score's wild intensity, but there are lots of days I love it more than even Raiders.

I have said that for a while, which runs against lots of nostalgic feelings people have for the first one.
But I think the story and the themes and the overall entertainment of the 3rd film are the best of all of them.
Sean Connery helps, and I think it is also the funniest of all the Indy films.

I've always said the 3rd one is my favorite. I know people love Raiders and it is absolutely a classic, however my big thing is the pacing just isn't quite as good as it is with the sequels.

For me personally, it goes 3, 2/1 (they're equally enjoyable for different reasons), then 4 (which I also still enjoyed a lot). And I'd rank the scores the same.

Nostalgia plays no part in my preference for Raiders. It's just all around a great film and my choice for the greatest adventure film of my generation.

I truly Hope…That Someone ie Mike Matessino will Finally tackle All of The Indiana Jones Music…and including The Ending Music of Temple of Doom. The Right Tempo of Raiders. And All Alternates.

I agree. Raiders is just perfect. There's nothing about it which is out of place, half done, or could be better. Yes, some of the effects are crude by today's standards but they were then too. It was part of the intent I think. And for some reason, Raiders always feel the most authentic to me. Like it actually takes place in the time period in which it is set. There's a sort of theme park quality to the other two (as much as Last Crusade aspires to recapture the mood of Raiders), especially Temple of Doom. Raiders perfectly embodies the pulpy, noir adventure that the others lack. Last Crusade doesn't deserve to tie Raiders' shoe laces.
