GAMERA-REBIRTH!---trailer released for the Netflix animated tv series.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN06AFa2jBA

DC STUDIOS---DC Studios announced ten upcoming movies and tv series.
Also, DC Studios co-head James Gunn commented on the plight of the DC movie franchise, "I wanted to take care of these characters. We all know it's been a f-cked up road for many of them, for the past few years...and I really thought it is a challenge, but I think it's a possibility to create something really wonderful with these characters...The history has been sh-t! It's been a real f-cked up journey for DC. I think that there was basically no one minding the mint and they were giving out IP to any creative that smiled at whoever was in charge. There was never any real power given to the people in charge, and so somebody could always go over their head and do whatever they wanted. We had the DCEU, which then became the Joss Whedon JUSTICE LEAGUE but it also became the Snyderverse, which became this. And then we have WONDER WOMAN and WONDER WOMAN 2, which doesn't even match what happened in WONDER WOMAN 1 and then we have the Arrowverse and even us coming in with THE SUICIDE SQUAD and PEACEMAKER and y'know what is it exactly? And all of a sudden Bat-Mite's a real guy. So how can we take these things together and make them make sense and have them unified and have them be one real universe - one real world."
Gunn said THE BATMAN: PART II will premiere on October 3, 2025.
Co-head Peter Safran sid there are "Possibilities" that Michael Keaton might return as Batman.

1. CREATURE COMMANDOS---animated tv series featuring The Suicide Squad's Weasel and Rick Flagg, Sr.
2. WALLER---animated tv series featuring Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
3. SUPERMAN LEGACY---live-action movie written by James Gunn and is describe as, “It is not an origin story, it focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing… He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.”
4. LANTERNS---live-action tv series starring Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine that is described as, “It’s terrestrial-based, it’s got two of our favorite Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, star in a TRUE DETECTIVE-type mystery and it plays a really big role leading into the main story that we’re telling across our film and television.”
5. THE AUTHORITY---movie based on the comic book.
6. PARADISE LOST---Wonder Woman prequel tv series about Themiscrya that is described as, “What’s the origin of an island of all women? What are the beautiful truths and the ugly truths behind all of that, and what’s the scheming like between the different power players in that society?”
7. THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD---movie about Bruce and Damian Wayne that is described as, “This is the introduction of the DCU's Batman. It is not Robert Patson. It is not Ben Affleck...This is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a b*tch assassin murderer."
8. BOOSTER GOLD--live-action tv series described as, “it’s about a loser from the future who uses basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.”
9. SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW---live-action movie described as, “In our [DCU] we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant vs. Supergirl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life.”
10. SWAMP THING---movie described as, "the dark origins" of Swamp Thing.

TO LESLIE---the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is investigating if Andrea Riseborough engaged in a campaign for her Best Actress Oscar nomination that violated rules after she received a nomination over favored actresses Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler. The allegations of an overly aggressive campaign with social media and emails involved Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Charlize Theron and others. Some critics claim Riseborough's movie, TO LESLIE, only made $27,000 at the box office which makes it highly unlikely that a sufficient number of voters actually saw the movie.

BAD BOYS 4---Will Smith and Martin Lawrence confirmed the latest sequel is underway.

MICHAEL---Michael Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play his uncle in the biomovie.

SHOWTIME---Showtime will merge with Paramount+ and have a "Paramount+ with Showtime" programming which has led to the following cancellations: AMERICAN GIGOLO, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, KIDDING, SUPER PUMPED, ON BECOMING A GOD IN CENTRAL FLORIDA, AMERICAN RUST, THE END and WAKEFIELD.

HULU---Hulu cancelled KINDRED and REBOOT.

ACAPULCO---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 3.

Trivia---three actors who appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's NORTH BY NORTHWEST also appeared in the original STAR TREK franchise.
In NORTH BY NORTHWEST, Stanley Adams played police Lt. Harding. In STAR TREK, Adams played Cyrano Jones in "The Trouble With Tribbles".

Well these all sounds lovely!

A Wonder Woman series without Wonder Woman.
A Superman movie where Superman realizes humans arent worth saving.
A dark depressing Supergirl with PTSD!

Interesting response to the Superman news. I thought many here would eat up the references to "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" on the press release and complimenting on Superman's "old fashioned" presence in a modern world. Typical FSM harshness without actually looking at the context. I thought this was the Superman we wanted to see:

"It’s not an origins story, it focuses on Superman’s balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned,” says [producer Peter] Safran.

As far as the Wonder Woman and Supergirl stuff. Well, DC Comics have a rich history of characters and events of Themyscira beyond the Wonder Woman character and that is literally Supergirl's origin. The comic run that this concept is based on (it is essentially Supergirl as Rooster Cogburn, helping a vengeful young woman find her place... Krypto is a big supporting character!) is by one of the most acclaimed comics writers working now, Tom King, who has breathed new, optimistic, life in classic characters like Adam Strange and Jack Kirby's beloved Mister Miracle.

I don't think the casting information is accurate, as both of those actors mentioned were the leads of the Greg Berlanti produced Green Lantern show that has now been canceled. I am pretty sure they haven't announced any casting for the leads of any of the shows/movies announced except for Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller.

While I was a little underwhelmed with this announcement, I’m not judging it quite as harshly as you Sol.

Wonder Woman is not mentioned in the the title of the series....so I don’t see it as a WW series, just as I never saw ‘Gotham” as a Batman series or ‘Krypton” as a Superman series.

As NS said - there is a rich history of characters and events across the DC Universe. Am I excited for this? At this stage, probably not but you never know - I might give it a go if it ever gets released.

The Superman idea sounds quite good. Superman struggling with being the big boy scout in a society that has moved on beyond the big boy scout. Again, I agree with NS on this one.

And I’m looking forward to seeing Supergirl as a decent character with a back story that gives her some gravitas.

Booster Gold sounds good as well.

Still - I am underwhelmed with this announcement. Maybe it’s my own Superhero burn out. Maybe because it seems they are aiming this at a younger demographic than me. However, I had no idea of who ’The Guardians of the Galaxy’ were and that movie remains in my top 3 Marvel movies. So, I hope to be surprised.

I have been consistently underwhelmed by everything James Gunn has ever made, I know I am an outlier with that, but there it is. The new DC slate seems like a smoking garbage dump of a fanboy given the keys to a studio with lots of money to spend, we all know how this will turn out.

Yes, I do want "classic" Superman. But it doesn't fit in a modern jaded world. I would set a Superman story in the 40's.

Yes, I do. Oh, boy! Another "Dark" universe. Like that's worked before. I'd stay away from words like "Dark" and "Origins".

Well, I know I'm in the minority but I never liked the GOTG movies. I find Pratt annoying for some reason, Saldaña overexposed, Gillan wasted talent, and I didn't find Groot or Rocket as endearing as everyone else. Never liked Thanos either, though he was kinda boring and he looks like that guy from Pawn Stars.

I'll give him props if he keeps Snyder a million miles away from all of this.

Man I'd love a Superman movie as a period piece set in the 1940s but realistically we would never see that until these characters are in the public domain.

I feel very much the same. Superhero "burnout" is quite real in my reality and I mostly struggle to find the interest to keep invested. Which sucks to declare as I have loved these characters over the near 40 years of my own life and as a boy used to dream up movies for them and play out those "movies" with my Kenner and Toy Biz action figures while listening to my favorite movie scores. But the genre as a movie and TV media presentation is so incredibly stale. I still stay active in the comic book community so my ears definitely perk when I hear of characters like The Authority and Swamp Thing, and of writers like Tom King and Grant Morrison, but at this point I can't help but feel 40% of things will even become a reality and at that point who will know of the quality of the audience interest?

There was a Variety piece published with this press yesterday and there is a lot more context there to understand their perspective as "studio heads." In many ways, they seem keyed into the frustrations with the genre that I have myself, and have seen others discuss too. Take this bit of heat from James Gunn:

"You can't be telling the same 'good guy, bad guy, giant thing in the sky, good guys win' story again' Gunn said. "You need to tell stories that are more morally complex. You need to tell stories that don't just pretend to be different genres, but actually are different genres."

A new Superman film "set in the 1940s/50s" won't happen. For that, you got reruns. wink

Superman Returns bombed because it recycled too many elements from the 1978 movie. Brandon Routh's Clark Kent was one-dimensional, while Kevin Spacey's Gene Hackman impression got old.

Are you familiar with the character? Yes, it's worked before, and it will again.

Exactly. People who think Gunn’s take on Supergirl is a departure clearly aren’t familiar with the comic books. Kara has been a bit messed in the head for decades now.

I’d suggest that Superman: Returns flopped because it was a godawful movie made by a filmmaker who, at best, is a journeyman director.

I agree about Routh although he was no worse than the equally wooden Henry Cavill. Spacey though was one of the very few things I liked about the film.
