That is exactly what a new Swamp Thing film should look like: Bernie Wrightson's art!

James Mangold hit it out of the park with Logan. He'd be perfect.

I do like James Mangold a lot. I think he is one of the most reliable craftsman directors around (could care less about Indiana Jones 5, unfortunately). I love the Swamp Thing character and I hope that this turns out to be something worth my personal time. I would honestly rather see a filmmaker with a more singular voice and a penchant for Horror and macabre. Someone like Panos Cosmatos comes instantly to mind.

Annihilation director Alex Garland expressed interest in making a Swamp Thing movie several years ago. I doubt they've reached out to him.

Garland would do well with it too, though he has expressed recently that he plans to retire after finishing his new film Civil War this year. He wants to go back to writing for himself and others. Directing has left him unsatisfied and mostly missing his family.

"[...]I have been feeling quite strongly that I should stop directing films and I should write for other people with the intention of trying to execute the film they want to make, rather than trying to force through the film I want to make, which is what used to happen in the old days.

It could be in part a product that I ended post-production on Men literally 48 hours before principal photography of Civil War so maybe that was just exhausting. But I wonder whether it’s time to step back. Civil War will definitely be my last film as a director for at least a while. Definitely."

The guy on the right...is that Ian McShane? I would never have recognized him.

It is McShane. Getting younger every day, it seems! I love his presence in the John Wick films. He's the kind of shaky ally that has your back when he can put himself in your shoes, but would turn on you in a second if it meant protecting his interests. One of my favorite things about the world of those movies is the relationships and how they are built on principles and codes.

The first three John Wick films grossed $586 million in total, with each successive film approximately doubling the take of the prior film. It will be interesting to see what this fourth, pandemic-delayed film does.

Dexter without Michael C Hall, include me out (I still have New Blood to watch).

Theres a relief then. Harrison was a creepy little shit. Wouldnt have sustained a series. The whole point of dexter was you actually liked him.

I think it will be a success. Time does well on this franchise and the fan base grows. It will have been almost four years since chapter 3 and the cinemas are seeing the business of people who want to support good movies in franchises they have that affection for.

I thought that was Sylvester Stallone.

Isn’t JW two hours of one dude shooting other dudes in the head?

That does indeed happen in the three movies, but like most other movies in it's genre and beyond there are also stories, characters, scenes, subtext, context, etc.

As long as there's a story.

Agreed. The Wickverse has many layers. There's a lot going on there.

Gunn just said the Swamp Thing movie will adapt the award-winning run by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben. There was nothing else like it in the '80s. Whoever adapts it, better nail it. It has to be R-rated or it won't work.

My god, John Wick 4 is 169 minutes long! I think the original plan was to shoot JW 4 & 5 back to back, & then covid happened. I wonder if they combined both films, as they've said there's no immediate plans to film the next one.

If that's the truth, I hope they give at least the SEMBLANCE of an ending to this one, as the "See you in two years...!" cliffhanger (which got extended to four thanks to the Pandemic) at the end of the third one was a real groaner. The second had a cliffhanger as well, but that made more sense at the time, as I was anticipating the filmmakers to cap the series as a finite trilogy. I love these movies, but nearly three hours of non-stop bang-bang and stab-stab has the potential to be numbing. Like Edgar Wright once said, "It's rather like too much chocolate, isn't it...?"

I just read that Lance Reddick who played the hotel manager (& who's in the forth one) has died suddenly from natural causes (heart attack?), he was only 60.
