What sites you use for watching movies? Do you pay subscription or use free sites?

None, I watch them all on the telly, but I have seen a couple on YouTube that aren't available anywhere else.

I've watched many films on YouTube. The image and sound quality can be terrible, but not much worse than when I went to the local fleapit in the ´70s, and the half-blind projectionist usually had the picture out of focus and half off the screen. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of YouTube uploads which are better than my DVDs of the same films.

I watch films on Netflix, HBO... can't remember all the names. They're good for recent films, but they have very little in the way of classic films, or international cinema.

I recently subscribed (5 euros a month) to FilmIn, which is (I think) based in Barcelona. They have a great selection of "cult" movies from all genres and countries. Tall Guy may be pleased that there are Béla Tarr films up (although I only found them because I was searching for Bela Lugosi - I know I made that joke before, but since you didn't laugh then, I'm giving you another chance).

FilmIn also has some "unexpected" (for me) surprises, such as all of the series of Inside No 9, and "The Durrells" - which I didn't even know existed, but since I'd read at least one of his Corfu trilogy books, I gave it a go.

I think maybe the first post is a spam of some kind, but anyway:

I watch in the theatre (99% press screenings, the occasional regular screening), occasional screeners, on Netflix, the library service and NRK -- the Norwegian public broadcaster. Not so much DVDs and Blu-rays these days, but I aim to pick that up again.

big grin big grin big grin

(There - you’re so needy)

I’m delighted you can access the films of BélaTarr. The three I’ve seen are all stunningly immersive and hard to forget. Especially Sátántangó, aka Monsieur Hulot Goes on Holiday to a Failing Hungarian Collective Farm. But without the comedic French character. Or the holiday.

In answer to the original question, where HAVEN’T I watched movies! Woof!

I still see 1-2 films in the theatre per week. I'm a member of the AList program with AMC theatres. If I happen to miss it, then I catch them on either Amazon, Netflix or Hulu

Maybe because you joined a FILM MUSIC message board to ask a question about where we watch movies and your profile has a link to https://findstreamingsites.com/

Oh, you're not familiar with Carl Pachino? He's an Italian composer of the film "Il Hombre Spamola."

Right. By the way, I noticed that your favourite film composer is the very famous "Pachino". What are some of your favourite scores of this most legendary film composer, and what are some other film composers you enjoy?

That's just where I'm no watching them. I think my last visit to the cinema was 3-4 years ago (& I'd go twice a week back in the sixties). Oh well, times change.

Yes, I used to go to the cinema a lot, but these days, I prefer to watch movies at home. Sure, I still go out to watch a movie now and then, usually when meeting friends etc., but by and large, prefer to watch movies at home now. Technology is at a point where the home theater experience is quite satisfactory, and I can stop the movie any time I want, get something to eat or drink, can chat with my wife without bothering anyone, and can watch a movie without being bothered by anyone chatting with his wife. Best of all worlds.

There's a whole free world out there. For movies there's free streaming apps like Pluto TV, Sling TV, Comet TV (For Sci Fi) and Stirr. For anime there's Crackle. I don't use it pesonally but the most popular streaming device seems to be Roku.

YouTube has free movies with ads and you can find classic movies (and tv shows) on YouTube put up by individual users. There's also Archive.org.

You can even find free movies with an over the air antenna without the need for a cable or internet connection. Its not like the old days of 4 or so channels, there's anywhere from 40 to 80 over the air channels available if you can pick them up. I can pick up about 35 channels with a cheap $15 dollar Walmart indoor antenna. Hell, you can pick up as many channels with a wire and metal coat hanger.
