Who said hate? It’s just that people want him in everything. Hell, last year, people wanted him as the next James Bond! While Hiccup is more in his wheelhouse, it is (again) such a brain-meltingly obvious casting choice that anyone in Hollywood seriously entertaining this notion should resign out of shame.
Hiccup will be playing by an Afroamerican teenage actor, right ? Those Hollywood & Disney standards right now...
So? Why should they go with an Afroamerican middleaged actress for that role?
I think this was in reference to Disney's The Little Mermaid (2023) being changed from a caucasian red head to African-American.
That aside, it will be interesting to see how Powell adapts or reimagines his amazing material for the franchise. I also agree this is a project that seems unnecessary. The original trilogy was great as an animated series. I think the fantastical story line was made more palpable because it was in the animation realm. It will be harder to stomach a live-action dragon emoting the way Toothless did.
My personal favourite of the franchise was the second movie. It was like ESB in that is was darker and a serious tone. I also enjoyed Hiccup's struggles to accept the mantle of leadership and break from his childhood. Great film.

Define "people." Anybody can post whatever they want, and it's easy to confuse a handful of posters with a genuine groundswell. Just as six people on this board can sometimes seem like a sure sign that some obscure soundtrack will be a huge seller (and isn't).
The problem with Tom Holland, is he has used this very narrow acting shtick in quite a few films now.
Persistently flustered and confused, somewhat stupid, but handsome kid, with all kinda crazy stuff happening around him. His face is pretty much the same template in all of those films, wide eyed, stunned, duuuhh!
