Until the Academy retroactively awards the estate of Jerry Goldsmith an Oscar for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, I'll continue to consider these bullshit awards as illegitimate.

Looks like that film Apathy is gonna sweep the board. Lol. Can have a little strip tag on the poster for years that says Winner of 24 oscars!

BABYLON's wall-to-wall score will probably earn the film its only Oscar. Would prefer BANSHEES to win and it might well do so as a consolation prize, which is what the "lesser" categories often become.

The All Quiet in the Western Front is not really a score, it is more like sound effects, pretty funny that score lovers here are championing this, well, sounds effects track to win and Oscar, but, well, the Oscars and about as popular as 8 Track tapes, so, I guess that fits.

One of the weakest years in my opinion.... Man just compare this to 1961: EXODUS THE MAFNIFICENT SEVEN SPARTACUS THE ALAMO and ELMER GANTRY which I consider the weakest one of the bunch but still miles ahead of the ones 2023 or 1963 FREUD LAWRENCE OF ARABIA MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY TARAS BULBA TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD I mean how amazing can one year be with all landmark scores??? Well, part of the problem is people still watch and talk about the movies you listed meaning that they are considered classics and actually good films. They haven't made meaningful, entertaining or even good movies (compared to these) in years, with a few exceptions. I used to watch the Oscars every year, and my buddies and I would make our predictions and have a friendly wager (high stakes- a milkshake) on the line. When the films nominated ceased to be entertaining and started to be preachy, haughty, boring garbage I stopped paying attention. When I've looked to see what was nominated for either best score or best picture I usually see a bunch of films I have no interest in watching. Besides, the trend of scores being "atmospheric" have made many modern scores boring, interchangeable afterthoughts not worthy of what an Oscar used to stand for. The classic reply to naysayers of soundscapes scores, 'grandpa' Great films and solid musical scores - are so, like last year - boomer stuff. Um, ok

How the eff is this score not a score? I'm really curious what you consider a score now. "Flares" and "Comrades" are legitimate adagios. It is music created by a classically trained pianist. If a score is what a musician or composer is tasked by their collaborators with providing the sound and music of an underscore for the soundtrack of the film, then it is a score. Or is it not a score because you don't like it? I don't think it was the great score of the year myself, but it is a score performed by musicians featuring "instrument sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion" (the definition of music, by the way).
