Watched the movie ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT ...It was a decent movie , but I can understand why it didnĀ“t win in the best picture and directing category. It was well made ..but I thought in terms of characters it was a bit weak.Anyways..the music...well these kind of movies..they dont really need any music at all in my opinion...but the score worked quite well in the movie. It was the same as JOKER and THE REVENANT.Those kind of "scores" work almost always for dark ,depresssive movies.
Nor was NOPE by Michael Abels, which was probably my favourite new score of 2022.
Nope was shut out of so many categories despite being one of the year's best cinematic treasures. But we can all harp on the Oscars till the cows come home. Time will be most kind to Nope. Many of the other movies (All Quiet especially) will be forgotten within the year. Even Roger Deakins, himself nominated for an Oscar that evening, gave a very public interview where he declared he himself found the Academy a snobby organization that rejects genre films or makes consideration that only one should be recognized. While it was very exciting to see a Science Fiction Comedy film rightly awarded many top prizes, so many other great genre films from 2022 were neglected in favor of forgettable dreck like The Whale or All Quiet on the Western Front.
