Good news for Rombi fans. A new murder/mystery/comedy with regular collaborator Francois Ozon. And a CD will be released (yay). He hit a sticky patch a few years ago, where his scores followed the drones-ville tradition, but his last few have been back to great again.
CD has been available for a while now in Europe. I haven't bought it yet but was hoping Intrada might stock it so I could bulk up a future order. Any thoughts from others?
Listening now. Fun. Yes, a bit of Basic Instinct, probably on purpose. But then it becomes its own thing very quickly. And yes, the last few Rombi scores have obviously had to follow temp tracks, a shame. Just let the film composers do their damn job, directors/producers.
Very addictive already. Can't wait to see the movie, should it ever play here. Ozun is hit and miss but when he hits he's wonderful and this looks very stylish and fun with a great cast.
I'm falling in love with this CD. Bright 'n' Breezy, old-school murder/mystery music. Rarely do you hear a film score like this these days. Pastiche...yes. But of the highest order.

I just had my first listen to this 2023 Rombi score. If I had to place the year of composition by listening alone, I would (just as the composer intended) be many decades in the past. I wholeheartedly agree with Hurdy Gurdy's brief-but-nicely-accurate description. The film is listed as a Comedy-Drama.
This is the kind of well-done and eminently-listenable score that makes you want to see the film for which it was written. I did look for it on video. So far, the DVD and the Blu-Ray releases (in French, German, Castilian) have no English subtitles. The film is not allowed to stream to the USA (unless you have one of those fancy VPNs that fake out the streaming service and locate you in another country). But there will still be no English subtitles, I presume. So it's on my video radar screen for now. I liked one reviewer's comment: "insanely classy."
Rombi fans, this score is a winner! I love it! A most welcome change of pace!
