"Hey, record companies"... Where is the MURDERERS' ROW CD? Where is the ESCAPE TO ATHENA CD? Where is the NUDE BOMB CD? Where are COUNTLESS OTHER unreleased titles from the Maestro?. GET ON IT!
For information, the THE NUDE BOMB australian 2019 Bluray edition features the Lalo Schifrin score as an isolated audio track, but said to be with up and down volume level!
Seems like he is and was not a seller for lables like LalaLand, INTRADA,Krizerland ( Did they ever release one?) QUARTET ( to name the ones that first come to my mind ) Probably the one composer of which I list most of my MOST WANTED scores....
For what it’s worth, I agree. There is so much of his work unavailable. Perhaps Mr Schifrin himself doesn’t want these releases, otherwise tis a puzzle and a shame...
I love Schifrin's music--in all categories--but I am somewhat unfamiliar with many of his scores from the 80s and beyond, precisely because they were not commercially released and were for films that did not interest me.
So, recommendations on Lalo scores from the last 40 years are welcomed (I have kept up with his Jazz Meets the Symphony series and other non-film work).
Just a heads up, I have sent an email to the last email address I have on record for Donna/Lalo, seeing how they're doing. If the email address is still active, I hope there will be a reply. I haven't seen Lalo in person since 2007 and between 1998 (the first time I met him and Donna) and about 2008, we corresponded to and fro semi-regularly, with snailmail letters, Christmas cards and latterly, emails.
So fingers crossed - I have been concerned for Lalo's wellbeing, with some of the photos we've seen of the odd event he's attended in the intervening years. I am presuming he is retired these days.
To each their own, I suppose but I don't see what the fuss is here. I have it on lp and find it pretty unremarkable , from a pile of otherwise pretty decent stuff.
Varrick and Love and Bullets n St Ives (albeit a short score) are on another planet compared to Athena. These are the great crimes of unreleased Lalo.
