I understand why Hans Zimmer is so popular today. I will not say it is his best score but it is one of my favorites. The balls to the wall "King Arthur". The cue "Woad To Ruin" is a lot of fun and exciting. The Last Samurai, Sherlock Holmes, all of his Pirates of the Caribbean , Pearl Harbor, Crimson Tide. He has been one of the hardest working since the 90's and done a lot of great work. I could list more but those are probably my most go to Zimmer.
Crimson Tide has a killer main theme, but I never found the whole score to be that good.
I love the score and I think its very immersive. It feels poetic to me. On the other hand I'd say The Rock has a killer main theme but I just cannot get into the rest of that score.
I don't know why but I really love Broken Arrow though I consider it a very abstract score and not an easy listen.
His early ones, before he became a "name" linked to every franchise and had an army of clones;
Backdraft Green Card Pacific Heights Driving Miss Daisy The Power of One
Love em all.
Early Zimmer had a much different, but totally unique sound that was exhilarating and for me, a new voice in scoring - Rainman, Daisy and Green Card all had it, but he lost it some point along the way. It peeked back a little for X-men Dark Phoenix, which was cool, but I'd love to see him score a movie in the style of "early hans" again...
