Thank you for posting this! I had scanned the top half of that article, but totally missed the "Vertigo" information. Awesome! P.S. Update: I tried to order a single ticket with no success, as they seem to be requiring a minimum subscription of 4 concerts at this time. Sigh. Classical music events for the rich only continues... With apologies for grousing. Will consider my budget and perhaps pick more events. But an orchestra seat is $114. Which I cannot justify. Maybe I'll watch my 4k disc that night instead. I know I know more grousing.

Think the price just irked me a bit. I used to go to lots of concerts and Broadway shows before everything skyrocketed. I truly support orchestras and opera companies -- and try to make contributions every year. I just fear that the music I love is disappearing from the radar for most folks. Symphonic concerts and operas have always been a bit elitist, but that trend is just beyond the pale these days -- at least that's how it seems to me!

I think there are times when grousing is not only permissible but the most appropriate response to certain situations. John, I suggest you convey your grousing in a letter to the Times and, more importantly, to the Philharmonic folks. We keep hearing about so many orchestras dying out for want of fresh audiences, one would think they'd do more to encourage people who actually want to attend a concert without signing up for a season or getting a second mortgage on their homes.

I will keep an eye on when individual tickets become available. I am entirely sympathetic with the grave state of affairs for orchestras, opera companies, ballet troupes, ensemble companies, theatrical venues and other arts organizations in the US and around the world given the grueling impact of the lockdown and current affairs on their funding. One of my favorite small theatre companies in NYC, the York Theatre, got a double whammy when their venue was flooded and ruined. They've relocated to a temporary space. Arts in general in the US, as they say, ain't easy.

Thanks for your more knowledgeable perspective, John.

PS If I ever get too full of myself in these forums, please let me know! That seems to be happening more and more as I get older alas! My sis says I get it from our Dad who could be a real Ahole and opinionated about matters far beyond his knowledge base. Apples not falling far from trees, etc.

This is far from the first time I've had a learning experience from John, which I always appreciate.
