Attention readers: I have been implementing a system that is nothing more than a note to myself; for cues that I want to include in a suite one day, for now on I will denote them with ^ symbol. It has no special meaning to anyone else but myself. No, the lack of an up arrow symbol doesn't mean the cue is bad (it just may have too much SFX or FX for suite use or just isn't worth my time to edit and include). Hence forth this system will be in all future threads and pre-exiting threads that I go back to for missed episodes. Anything in ( ) are just notes to the arrow and you need not bother with that. There are two or three episodes during the run where he knocked it out of the park and I think all three times I suggested he should have gotten an Emmy nomination. Haven't reached those yet in the thread...

A fairly unremarkable score. I feel a talented composer like Warren was just wasted here. On a set of season one scoring, I'd only take the first highlight.

It was already a cliché in the 1980's of hostage situation in the old west were one bad guy wants to rape one of the female hostages, but by the time this aired, it was just lazy writing.

Another fine effort by Foliart. It's a shame he got typecast in comedy television and rarely was able to escape it. It would kick ass if he was given a shot at "The Orville".

Nostalgia lives in this episode. Yes, that is Gene Barry, and yes -- he is playing Bat Masteron -- the same character he played in the show "Bat Masteron", in 1958. And yes -- that's Hugh O'Brian playing Wyatt Earp -- the same character he played on the TV series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" back in 1955. This apparently re-invigorated interest in Gene playing Bat, so during the last year of the show, there was a TV movie unrelated to this series, where Gene played Bat Masteron one more time. And both characters are in the first two parts. Earp stays for the third part.

Continuity Error: The whole idea of season one was Ethan was a wanted man. Two episodes even had him being hauled away for trial, which he avoided both times. Yet now it's forgotten and when Ethan sees the news paper prominently mentioning him, he doesn't even mention it.

Lord, I thought that about ten seconds of truncated theme was short, but this one is shortened to like maybe four seconds.

Warren brings an unusual level of spirited scoring to the episode, given how easy it would have been to fall into simple tropes.

The prisoner Bishop is played perfectly by P.L. Brown, who is still alive and working. He's engaging, got a strong presence, and can act; I wonder -- looking over his resume -- why he's done so little and never gotten a break. A person like him could lead a show, given the right characters and ideas. Oh well. I assume his IMDb credits are incomplete, since just after this credit, there is a fifteen year gap!

Foliart does a wonderful job here. At times almost Emmy nomination worthy. At times a composer of lesser compositional abilities would take that Chinese theme or dramatic moment, and shift or shoehorn it in, but when Dan did it, he weaved them in to work with the score naturally.

Man, that little brunette girl is almost as evil as the girl who used Bart in in episode of "The Simpsons". See -- this is why you should get a blonde. ;-)

SEASON 3:

This final season features and entirely new opening theme: action oriented and with a drum machine. This is presumably by Immel.

I'll admit, I didn't see that ending coming.

I have to say: I like the character Tiny and the acting by John F. Bloom. It was very disappointing to learn many things by going over his IMDb page: this was his only work as a regular character, he only had two more bit parts before his acting career came to a halt in 1992, and he died in 1999. Very sad. He had the potential, in my eyes, to carry his own series.
