Without Michael McDowell, Larry Wilson, and Warren Skaaren I would probably set my expectations very low... If those guys WERE around today… they’d be on strike!

To this project: Why not, I say. Not that the original film screamed for a sequel or anything, but in the right hands (which it obvioulsy has), it could work. As far as the score is concerned, I think the original BEETLEJUICE theme is one of the greatest compositions Elfman has ever written. The rest of the score, however, has always left me a bit cold. Some nice bits here and there, but not really anything on that main theme's level. Still, I'd be curious to hear if and how Elfman develops the material. I think this was the 2nd time he did a full orchestral film score PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE being the other one and he was just starting. This is definitely vintage Elfman quirkiness galore. I'm playing the expanded version on my car today. Some nice additional cues. Plus I love the Opening Titles with Elfman doing the Day-O voice over which is absent on the OST. Expanded? Do tell... (edit- Oh, right- that giant box set...)

I'm playing the expanded version on my car today. Some nice additional cues. Plus I love the Opening Titles with Elfman doing the Day-O voice over which is absent on the OST. The problem here is that the version on the box set is not the movie version. The "Day-O" vocal is not the one from the film and sounds like it was recorded and added for the set...
