1) The original tapes of "The Reluctant Stowaway" ran into some trouble, as we all know, but not every track was crushed, killed, or destroyed. So GNP's LIS Volume 1 used the surviving Williams tracks along with Lionel Newman's library cues to make a suite.

Can anybody say which GNP tracks were the Williams originals? I have every CD edition of LIS, and I'm thinking of swapping in the right GNP tracks from "Stowaway" with the LLL box set tracks. The quality will be uneven, but I want to hear it.

2) Suppose there was a Kickstarter campaign to re-record Lost in Space: The Complete John Williams. The aspiration would be to match the Williams tracks, or at least come closer than Lionel Newman did, and bring it out in glorious modern stereo. Is that realistic?

GNP box - The Reluctant Stowaway
Predominantly library re-recordings, but there are some original cues as broadcast:

Disc 1

03 - Escape Velocity - Robot Control - Meteor Storm - "Defrosting"
Track 3 is all original, however the end of the cue is mislabeled as “Defrosting” when it’s actually the cue which precedes “The Weightless Waltz” (No idea as to what the cue name is, and it‘s part of the whole of “The Weightless Waltz” on the LLL box).

05 - The Monster Rebels - A Walk In Space - Finale
All is a re-recording except for “Finale" (”the “To Be Continued” part) which is actually taken from the end of “The Hungry Sea”, (the cue named “Strange Visitor” on the LLL box).

LLL 50th box
Disc 1
11 - Weightless Waltz
Disc 2
31 - Space Play-On - Strange Visitor

Joe 1956 beat me by seconds, so the ribbon goes to him!

I would imagine there would have to be more to the end product than just this episode. I'd be okay if they made it an "Irwin Allen" fest with missing cues from Voyage and Land of the Giants.

Thanks, Joe 1956!. So you can swap out LLL Disk 1, Tracks 8 and 9, and just swap in GNP Track 3.

Yeah, I'm saying re-record all four Williams LIS scores. I think that would be a good 2-disk set.

I'd love such a set and I'd love Williams to rerecord/rearrange the season 3 theme at least. And perform it in concert, especially any concert I can attend!

I grew up watching reruns of the show, and it was probably a year or two into my Williams fandom when I learned he scored that and Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants (maybe around 1992)- I read it in a book at the Australian National Library. I did a search on film music and maybe "John Williams" and got a few hits of books that had at least a passing mention. And that was also the first time I learned the name of some of his 60s movies - Bachelor Flat and Not With My Wife You Don't etc.

Cut to 1996 or around then, I didn't think I remembered any of the music besides the main themes, but when I put on the GNP boxset for the first time, wow, the Danger motif, and a lot of other motifs were instantly familiar. I kept thinking "Oh I remember this!"

I may be wrong but the GNP version of Meteor storm still sounds different to the LaLaLand box set original tracks. It also doesn't seemingly appear on any other release.

Same with "Suiting Up" in the Island in the Sky score. A different take/version/mix was used in the GNP release, which was used in most episodes. The La La Land cue was unique to the episode it was composed for.

Kind of a nightmare for people that hate cross fading isn't it?

You're right. The GNP version of "Suiting Up" has an electric violin in the spacewalk portion. I'm not sure about there being any difference in "Meteor Storm".

(At least they're from the original sessions and not some re-recording that's around 10 percent slower).
