I've recently moved back to France after many years living abroad.
Am I the only one getting crazy high Import tax to pay every time I order or recieve a package from the US?
I have to pay €9 for everything ordered to Intrada. I had to pay €2 tax + €8.50 handling fee by French post office this morning for a record sent by Waxwork Records.

I can't help bu suspecting some kind of organizedracket system at custom. Especially since these fees are suposed to be included in the amount we pay when ordering. The most upsetting is that the post office has no power over this and it's very hard (almost impossible) to make a claim to the custom service.

Can compare it with ordering to Germany.
It's quite similar.
20% VAT (Tax is mostly ignorable) and if the delivery company manages the customs handling, they ask for a fee that depends on the company. Paid in the past: 5 EUR up to 20 EUR for handling fees.

If you paid VAT and TAX in advance, the supplier has to be registered with the customs office and is then given a special number. If the supplier charged you but you had to pay VAT and TAX afterwards, you may try to get the money back from the supplier.

Same in the Netherlands. Regulations changed a few years ago here in the E.U. That's why I started ordering at Music Box instead of the labels directly.

...& Music Box won't export to the UK. It's just an expensive pain in the arse to import this stuff now...so it better be something you really want.

Yes, it has become outrageously expensive to order something from the US into the EU, much, much more than it was years ago. Same with the UK since Brexit (obviously).

That's why I always consider Music Box Records as well to order Intrada/La-La Land/etc. releases.

I prefer Soundtrackcorner or Intermezzomedia to Music Box because shipping is cheaper at them.

From July 2021, new regulations are in place.
The EU customer pays, the so called "high authorities" need the money badly in order to finance their politics. End of the story. It's a film music message board, I won't go any further. We are poor little pawns.

Yup, I use Soundtrackcorner for any Music Box release, they're very good.

Maybe I'm misremembering or am confusing it with a different site but I though I read quiet some negative feedback about Chris' Soundtrack Corner around here. That's why I never bothered ordering there.

Shipping is indeed cheaper than Music Box but certain titles seem to be more expensive, so I guess it also kinda depends what you order. But I'll definitely remember it for my next order.

I've had only positive experiences with Chris" Soundtrack Corner. Good communication, fast -and relatively cheap - shipping. Yes, certain CDs are more expensive than at other sites but they usually charge much more for shipping. I also recommend Intermezzomedia, a great site too.

Yup. Can conform for The Netherlands. last La-La batch had two double-cds and one single cd. And I had to pay € 7,46 clearance.

It gets weirder when you order at BSX. You can download the music, so you already have the files. The cds itself aren't worth al lot.

€7,46 ain't that high though. I assume you also had to pay handling fees to PostNL?

I guess that was included. Clearance (inklaringskosten) is €6 for packages up to €150. Tax must have been €1,46. La-la puts a... realistic price on the tab for what's actually in the box ¯\_smile_/¯

I order very few CDs from the US but those I have bought, have arrived without Customs charges. In actuality, suppliers should always add VAT to the cost of the order but the boutique soundtrack labels seem to ignore that requirement, so the buyer is at risk of having the item stopped by Customs and charged VAT plus a a handling charge. French Customs must be particularly active compared to the UK where only a spot check is carried out, so most items arrive without charge. I buy far more Blu-rays than CDs from the US from large suppliers such as Amazon, who always charge the VAT on top of the retail price for oversea orders.

Yup, that's me as well. It's mostly Blu-rays from America these days (Warner Archive Collection), I haven't used Amazon US for years (expensive p&p), it's mostly been Wow & recently Rarewaves & I'm looking at a few others. As for soundtrack CDs, if I order one, it means that I really like & want it, so don't mind the cost (esp. as it's only one one or two a year now).

Interesting, thanks! Might be worth to order at LLL again if they have a sale.
