The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has announced that they will perform MATILDA-in-Concert
with David Newman conducting and Danny DeVito narrating. David Newman's enchanting score
to this endearing 1996 film has been a favorite of mine ever since I received a "homemade promo"
CDR of his score at the time of the film. The "Home From The Hospital" orchestral cue that starts it out
is so good that it made me STOP what I was doing to listen with my full attention.
Varese Sarabande later did release the score on CD in 2008 (VCL 0208 1075) via its CD Club in a
Limited Edition of 1500 copies.
The one-time-only performance will be presented at The State Theatre of New Jersey in New Brunswick
on Sunday, September 9th, 2023, at 8:00 PM. It's easily accessible from New York from
Penn Station via New Jersey Transit. I live about a half-hour away and have been to this newly
grandly restored vintage theater for many live-to-film NJSO performances: E.T., STAR WARS-A New Hope,
JAWS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, THE BEST OF JOHN WILLIAMS, etc. (You may get the
impression that they DO like John Williams at the NJSO!). Also, you can purchase a limited
"VIP Experience" as an add-on to the concert ticket. See the NJSO announcement for the details.

Hmmm....I suppose that this performance is also intended to coincide with the premiere release
of the film on 4K Ultra HD Steelbook on Sept. 5th.

Maybe we can get together before the evening showing of the film. I do plan to get the
VIP Experience, so right before and after the concert will probably be taken up by that for me.

CUE TITLE CORRECTION
I have to correct the cue title that I gave in my description above.
TO THE LIBRARY AND BEYOND (3:03)
This is the cue that got my attention. It's cue 5 on the Varese Club CD.
The insert in the old homemade "composer promo" that I had this cue as cue number 1 and
had mislabeled the title of this cue as "Home From the Hospital."

If one looks on YouTube and searches "Matilda" and "Home From The Hospital" together (which I later did),

Oh boy, as a ticket holder, I just got the e-mail notice from the New Jersey Symphony that the MATILDA performance
scheduled for September 9th here in New Brunswick, NJ, has to be postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
I'm very disappointed, but I do understand and support their unfortunate need to strike to get a proper settlement.
