As I said earlier in the thread, this is top 3 JNH for me, and in my top 50 overall soundtrack list. I saw the film once, several years ago, and it didn't match the subdued grandeur of the soundtrack, of course, but it was still pretty good. A lot down to Richardson's gorgeous cinematography.
The positive side of FSM! Thanks to this thread it has highlighted a score that sounds like my cup of tea so bought it off of EBay for £6. It arrived yesterday. Looking forward to hearing what you have been discussing.
SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS is a wonderful score, I listened to it the other day. The starting point of inspiration was clearly the music of Arvo Pärt, compositions like Fratres or Tabula Rasa seemed to have been the blueprint for the score.
Hey Nic, it was really neat just now going back to the 2016 comments in the old thread and realizing my reaction to the “discovery” of this 1999 film and score is akin to the early days of watching TV and discovering Golden Age ones. As such, I think your comment on influential sources applies to those inside film music, in a similar vein, as well as outside.
