I'll just say what I did: I checked out some of the scores that looked like they might be kind of thing, and then checked on youtube for clips and suites. There were substantial suites or cues for each of these I picked up. NEW SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON (TV) THE SECOND JUNGLE BOOK: MOWGLI AND BALOO KING OF THE WIND (REISSUE) THE SCARLET TUNIC THE MILL ON THE FLOSS The main thing for me is that Scott writes mostly in the classic orchestral film-score styles of the 60's-90's. (Though can defo do a lot of different styles). Often relies pretty heavily on his main theme, but still has good variety - and I enjoy the themes. I like the Cousteau scores because they can be more sustained suites, which I enjoy. And the period stuff is particularly up my alley.

The five you list are all worth having. Proper orchestral . But I wasn't joking with 'all of them'. For me he's never done a bum score. Or at least never totally worthless, if you want to be harsh. The only one I don't have and don't want is imseminoid ( unless it goes for a quid). Anthony and Cleo ( an all time fav)is top, Egyptian Bachanal and the barge she sat in would be worth it by themselves. The Cousteau one about whales( Parc oceanique?) Has some great humpback whale music. 20000 leagues is great so is odyssey of the belem. It's no stretch to say you can't go wrong with Scotty..

Also, I agree with everything Prince D said except I enjoy Inseminoid. On the other hand, that's one of only a couple of Scott's scores on Spotify (along with Symptoms), which means I don't have to buy it separately, so that's a bonus for me. Um, except that now I remember I did actually buy the digital version from BSX because I love that kinda thing too! And I have to say my very favorite all these years later is still The People That Time Forgot! Another one of those sci-fi orchestral scores (pre Star Wars, I believe) that is so good it makes up for the middling b- grade quality of the film.

I've never heard inseminoid but based on what I've heard I have no desire to. I may be missing something.good but I can live with that.

I've never heard inseminoid but based on what I've heard I have no desire to. I may be missing something.good but I can live with that. It's a very of-its-time electronic horror score, but obviously made by someone with a lotta musical chops, so it's more orchestrated and not as much like a John Carpenter or TD score - though it does get its groove on from time to time. More like a creepy Doctor Who score from the 80's. And I'm kicking myself that I didn't pick up the Shooting Party. Ah well, next time - I usually buy a Scott album or more a couple/three times a year.

Aye, Shooting Party is a nice one. A subtle one, no bombast.

Well I rectified my mistake and made one more order, to grab the Shooting Party and a couple others I didn't have yet. Just can't resist the sale, it's a good deal.

There are only TWO CDs I don't own by John Scott. INSEMINOID and WEBS & OTHER WONDERS, both full synth efforts and both from BSX. I've played the samples and I don't care for them (WEBS sounds slightly better, if you like the Dies Irae on tinny keyboards). Everything else by him on CD offers up something of merit, to varying degrees. If you enjoy traditional thematic orchestral film scoring, I imagine you will find something to enjoy in ANY of his titles available on CD, depending on your genre preference and whatnot.

I bought webs and wonders( to make up an order). Its OK but won't get loads of time.

I bought webs and wonders( to make up an order). Its OK but won't get loads of time ------------------------------- They're both available right now, for nearly half price, with their 40% sale on. But once the $18 postage has been added, they still come in around 15 quid each...and they'd basically be CD bottle-tops.

As I said earlier I can live without the other one. It is one thing to buy something hoping you like it. However it would be madness to buy something you know is crap ( 90% chance anyway). Maybe if someone was to give me a quid to take it off their hands, I would.
