I'm not the one chiming in on a thread just to say a score is boring and repetitive. I generally avoid contributing to topics concerning scores I don't care for.
It's called having an opinion. It's what happens on forums. And not all opinions are positive.
Btw, I now prefer English subtitles to English dubs. The English dubs can change the intended performance of the actor. The upcoming release of MINUS ONE in November here in the states will include the English dub, but I’m very happy with four disc set with the English subtitles which also includes the black and white version.
Great to hear! I always prefer hearing the original actors performances regardless of the language. Especially a film like this where the acting is so good. You really need the cultures experiences and personal take on the subject matter. Beside like I said, the actors are really good and they all have distinct personalities. It also happens to be one of the easiest subtitled films to read because of the pacing and interaction. There's very few moments where characters are talking over one another or really fast.
Same. the dub never captures the voice inflections and intention as well as the original acting. For a movie steeped in dramatic moments, the tempo and execution of the dialogue is paramount.
I really like the new track Guilt of the extra material. That cue in the film accompanies such an emotionally charged character exchange and I wondered why it was left off. I also prefer the sequencing here to the point where the Ifukube tracks sound good and make sense. The original release with its album sequencing never felt as good in terms of where the Godzilla suites occur.
This is terrific release and a handsome package.
While the original had some good content, it never really was a good listen for me. The new Deluxe Edition is, for some reason, much more listenable as a stand alone and does capture more of the emotion of the film.
Is it perfect? No. Is it repetitive in parts? Yes. However, I found it worthy enough for a high resolution purchase after the first listen…and I don’t open my wallet too easily.

Rich
I think the added content and sequencing makes a big difference. The original album presentation had a jarring switch from Sato's atmospheric score to the Ifukube suites. I ended up editing them out for general listening enjoyment. But the new Deluxe presentation feels much better with the Ifukube back in.

I might even watch movies that are in English with subtitles now.

Considering how badly mixed films are nowadays you almost have to!
