Laurent, not bad choices. smile we both picked same three first.

Yet I swear I didn't reread your posts before writing my own. Anyway, this is just a first impression of mine since this box has a lot of stuff to offer and therefore deserves more attention. Additionally, I like the fact each composer has been presented in a small vignette.

It does have plenty to offer and is more good than not. And the most negative I have said ( and still say) is that there is, literally, 3( maybe 4) tracks that I really don't like ( as a listening experience). Now I think that is pretty good going.

Excellent release from Quartet, looking forward in getting this one.

Romano Mussolini's "La Ragazzola" sounds wonderful...

In any case, I don't know if he has composed many scores, only four are listed in Soundtrack Collector. Three have been released from Beat Records. Awaiting for the Quarter release I know I have "Kriminal" and "Satanik" where Pregadio is credited as well. Would like to get "Alibi Perfetto".

"La Ragazzola" 1965
"Kriminal" 1966
"Satanik" 1968
"Alibi Perfetto" 1992

Also listened to the box set. I had heard all scores but Il Trapianto before so already had an opinion on my favourites: Il Divorzio, Cara Sposa, Verso l'Avventura and Il Debito Coniugale.

It was not completely clear if Cara Sposa and Eutanasia di un Amore were from the master tapes, as they sound similar to my vinyl rips.

Put it this way- the one I like least. As I mentioned earlier it is too much source like music on the run for me. Also the disc is quite long. Tracks in themselves aren't awful, I just find it too much to play in one go l, unlike the rest of the set. So, if I play it again it will be in portions, I think.

Roberto Pregadio is credited as well on the 7" single for La Ragazzola. So I was a bit surprised that he was not credited for the Quartet release, but perhaps the 7" credit from 1965 is mistake. I think the 7" single might be a re-recording, as the credited performer are Nando Monica E Il Suo Complesso?

No, this wasn´t a mistake at all. The SIAE database also credits both Mussolini and Pregadio as co-composers for LA RAGAZZOLA. At least three tracks from LA RAGAZZOLA have also already been on the BPM Score Music Series albums 3007 ("Love Themes") and 3019 ("Italian Life") about 20 years ago. As you can see here these tracks had also been credited to Mussolini and Pregadio:
https://www.universalproductionmusic.com/en-de/search?q=romano%20mussolini&qtext=romano%20mussolini&vtag=0&vwave=0&vdesc=1&ktype=6
You have to keep in mind that Mussolini - by the way he was the third son of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini - hadn´t studied composition, but originally was a sef-taught pianist and jazz musician. Therefore he needed the support of someone who had really studied composition and who could write for an orchestra. During the 60s this was always Pregadio whereas for the two films he did later on in 1974 and 1992 he had the professional help of Federico Santucci (who had of course also studied composition).

There are 41 tracks, nearly 80 minutes worth for "La Ragazzola" in the box set compared to the 20 tracks/40 minutes on the downloadable version, same release as Spotify I guess. I see your point, an hour and twenty minutes of a specific score can sometimes be a bit tedious and too much on one listen. That is a lot of music. At least we have the "complete score" which is a good thing in itself. Sometimes when I'm not that keen on a score, I try to watch the movie if possible. It helps me understand and perhaps appreciate the music score more. Haven't seen "La Ragazzola". I don't know if it's available online. Would be interesting to watch.

Captain

Also my opinion/like of that score may have been hampered a smidgen by that fact that there were 6 discs, 9 scores to plough through. I may appreciate it a bit more next time, like you say, when in the mood.

Listening to the score again, I agree it is a good one. Not my favourite in the box set, but a good jazz score.
