In summary: consider your budget and your listening environment ... there's so much more enjoyment from those scores than the music you already know.
Fully agree with all you said up there. That's why at least in some cases (I know some people here have excellent audio equipment), it seems the money would be more wisely spend in upgrading equipment rather than re-buying newer and newer masterings of recordings you already own multiple times. Of course, nothing wrong with buying newer masterings either. Whatever makes you happy in that case.
A great " Hi-Fi setup is the one that gets you joy when listening, equipment you don't actually "hear", because you listen to the music instead. And that means different equipment for different people, obviously. Many people have different needs and budgets, some have large rooms, others small apartments, some have to consider neighbors, others can crank up the music even at might-night with booming bass, some have carpeted floors and curtains, others large glass windows and stone floors... all of this actually has an impact on the sound. It's not "one size fits all". But listening equipment is definitely worthy of consideration if you want to get the most enjoyment out of your music.
