I'm afraid that in the last 25 years I've got lazy & listen to all my music from an iPod (well, not an iPod, but other makes of DAP). I rip all my CDs, but at least I use FLAC now, so they sound good. It does mean that when I get a CD, it gets ripped & then goes back in the case, maybe never to be taken out again.

As much as I like Hi-Fi (I do!) I don't spend time checking out different brands, reading multiple reviews or attend Audio/AV exhibitions. I have listened in-store on a few occasions but can recall only one occasion when different models (in this instance: a CD transport (player)) were demonstrated.

Buying blind means I have no authority to recommend Brand x over Brand Y, etc. but I do recommend that serious music listeners consider the Audio Gear they use ... not merely add another 50 - 100 CDs to their collection.

If you think you know your favourite score ... can recognise each and every note, etc. ... try listening to it on a better Hi-fi setup. You'll find that your collection of CDs has become a new collection.

In summary: consider your budget and your listening environment ... there's so much more enjoyment from those scores than the music you already know.

Fully agree with all you said up there. That's why at least in some cases (I know some people here have excellent audio equipment), it seems the money would be more wisely spend in upgrading equipment rather than re-buying newer and newer masterings of recordings you already own multiple times. Of course, nothing wrong with buying newer masterings either. Whatever makes you happy in that case.

A great " Hi-Fi setup is the one that gets you joy when listening, equipment you don't actually "hear", because you listen to the music instead. And that means different equipment for different people, obviously. Many people have different needs and budgets, some have large rooms, others small apartments, some have to consider neighbors, others can crank up the music even at might-night with booming bass, some have carpeted floors and curtains, others large glass windows and stone floors... all of this actually has an impact on the sound. It's not "one size fits all". But listening equipment is definitely worthy of consideration if you want to get the most enjoyment out of your music.

The best film score listening experience is blasting your car stereo at max volume while driving through quiet residential areas with your windows rolled down all the way. Just kidding. I never listen to music while I'm outside the house. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 560S headphones that plug into my desktop or laptop. I got 'em for a good deal, too. They're all I really need!
