Hello, people! I’ll keep it short and sweet: what are the odds that we get not only a remastered 4K disc of The Last Samurai but just as importantly if not more so, the complete score of one of Hans Zimmer’s greatest works? Come on La La Land! Let’s celebrate the 20th anniversary of this modern classic historical epic the right way!

I am fond of the movie and a good chunk of the score. It’s aged well over the years too.

Good movie, I've seen it years ago. The soundtrack album is a favorite of mine as well, one of Zimmer's best scores. Plays well on its own on album. Don't know how much and what an expanded score would add, but would check it out if there were such a release.

Excellent movie and score. One of Zimmer's best. If an expanded edition was ever released, I'd be in. Beyond Rangoon is another good one.

A couple points: 1) This is very reminiscent of Zimmer’s earlier work on 1989’s criminally underrated Black Rain. In fact, I treat them as cousins somewhat and when I’m in the mood to listen to one, I usually follow it up with the other. And while we’re on the topic, all the labels have been ridiculously generous over the past 10 years releasing oriental-flavored scores. If you like that stuff, you were spoiled. I’ve pretty much bought them all (Big Trouble In Little China, The Karate Kid, The Challenge, Remo Williams, Revenge Of The Ninja, etc.) 2) This is one of the rare examples where the OST pretty much has all my favorite cues from the movie (Beating In The Rain, Algren Presenting The Emperor With Katsumoto’s Sword, and a few others). Zimmer loves giving us suites (the aforementioned Black Rain had 4 tracks of score that were beautiful highlights in the form of suites). The digital exclusive “Final Charge” bonus track was also a nice extra. Having said that, it’s 20 years old now and I absolutely would welcome not only an expansion but a remaster. After 2 decades, I’m sure it can be cleaned up some.

Most likely won't happen with The Last Samurai being a WB picture. Not to mention Tom Cruise would have to approve of this release since he was one of the producers of the movie. I doubt he's easy to get hold of. Tom Cruise was able to name Harold Faltermeyer as returning for Top Gun 2 in a TV interview, I think he would definitely approve this stuff.

I'd love an expansion for this. There are quite a few little sections of the score that weren't included on the album. Even just the full tracks from the climax would be excellent to have. While we're at it, where's a 4K release?! The original Blu-ray is from HD-DVD times and didn't even have lossless sound! Exactly what I was asking for in my original post for this topic: for the 20th anniversary in December, I would like to see both a 4K release of the film and an expanded release of the score. Still got a couple months. Fingers crossed! Lol

I can assure you, 100%, despite the blessing of Hans Zimmer, Tom Cruise and Santa Clause this title or any other WB title for that matter is not happening in the near future MV
