Sam is a 12-year-old boy who likes to know facts. He is dying of leukemia. He has a list of things he wants to do before he dies. The book Ways to Live Forever is presented as the book he is writing. ------------------------ I picked up this CD when SAE had a sale on their Movie Score Media titles (it might well have cost me 49 or 99 cents). It's based on a best-selling book and judging by the synopsis, both film and book might be a struggle to watch/read (it sounds terribly heart-breaking and tragic). At times, the music is VERY poignant and sad. Just listening to some cues and imagining what's going on trigger melancholy and sadness. I hear a big Thomas Newman influence in many of the cues (with maybe a dash of Rachel Portman too). There are some pizzicato strings and percussion tracks that offer some respite from the tender/heartfelt strings and piano that lend the score its wistful/sad air. It's a nice little CD overall and one I'm happy to have in my collection. Any other fans?
