I do like these titles, it's not your standard "Planet of the Apes part III etc.", but more reminiscent of classic pulp novels. The double "of the" is part of the legacy, and it is about the "third person" perspective, so it's not the "kingdom of the apes" (which has a different connotation) but the "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes".

I would have thought MY ALL AMERICAN would have been a BIG fan favourite around here.
From the makers of HOOSIERS and RUDY and definitely packing a JG vibe in the writing (to me at least).

I would have thought the same thing. I think you and I are the only real fans of this incredible score.

Agreed. I'm a fan of MY ALL AMERICAN too. I revisit it all the time, especially the "Texas Wins" cue, which 100% has Rudy vibes. I'm looking forward to hearing what Paesano brings to Planet of the Apes.

no, I'm here too. I discovered it about a year ago by pure chance, because I heard it in the film they were showing on TV. What a great score.

Many years ago on his old website, the used to have samples up for a project where he did some very nice orchestral work. While I have faith in his ability to due work like that, I do not, however, have faith in the studio letting him do anything other than a big bloated generic action score with generic chugging action cues.

Emil Richards may be dead, but I hope that doesn't stop John from finding somebody to play wild mixing bowls.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have the same feeling about it.

Now, that the series comes closer and closer to the Heston´ PLANET OF THE APES, it would be fun, to have a nod to Goldsmith´s score with some theme similarities....but maybe it´s too early and the next one will be the "remake" version and a better fit.
Never heard of John Paesano...but who knows maybe he delivers. Giacchino sure always does in my opinion ,regardless what people say here on the forum about him.For me he is one of the greatest and one who holds up the flame of great filmscoring. His THE BATMAN score was fantastic in my opinion and so were all his POA scores so far.

I agree Giacchino's two Apes scores are just terrific. Paesano is a solid composer so I'm cautiously optimistc. Here's his credits music for Maze Runner:

I had to do a piano reduction of The Hunt from Goldsmith's seminal Apes score yesterday so forgive me if I'm underwhelmed here. All I hear is an incessant repeating string ostinato with long lines over it, the norm for almost any modern film score. I hope the composer will embrace some aspects of the franchise as Giacchino did. The music landscape for APES has always had some experimental qualities. I would be disappointed if this falls into generic action scoring.

I think comparing any modern Apes score against Goldsmith's original is a mistake. I won't say I'm super excited about Paesano's assignment on this, but like I said: cautiously optimistic. I won't be surprised if his is comparable to say the Patrick Doyle score, which was solid.

In it I hear Zimmer, Mohicans, and was expecting Elfmans chorus from decent into mystery to popo up.

Yes the soundbite of MAZE RUNNER is pretty weak and generic...but lets see...don´t wanna sound like an old fart .BUT.....no one will beat Goldsmith´s original anyways and I agree with Yavar..no point in comparing...the bar is just too high.

Yeah I wasn’t trying to say he won’t do something interesting but I havent heard anything in his body of work that indicates he will do something befitting of this franchise. But I’d love to be surprised.

Same here.

Marketing departments just go for the teenage target and ignore everyone else.

Yes, it's become a stale trope. Although I did like the use of Pink Floyd in one of those DUNE trailers.
