From one of dragon53's film/TV news/trivia threads today:
TERMINATOR ZERO---the Netflix animated tv series added new cast members. Rosario Dawson as Kokoro--“An advanced AI and Japan's answer to Skynet, if brought online, Kokoro will be endowed with the same power as Skynet. Kokoro must calculate for itself: is humanity the plague Skynet believes? Or are human beings worth saving?” André Holland as Malcolm Lee--“A genius computer programmer and father of three, Malcolm Lee is haunted by prophetic nightmares of an apocalyptic future. He's spent the last decade creating a secret artificial intelligence that he believes will be humanity's last hope.” Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko--“Coming from a post-Judgement Day 2022, Eiko is a resistance fighter sent back in time to stop Malcolm from launching Kokoro.” Ann Dowd as The Prophet--“In the future, the Prophet is the philosophical guide for the human resistance, a light shepherding survivors in the darkness of the unknown future ahead.”
Terminator 1 is an amazing flick. Terminator 2 is a movie that transcends the medium.
...everything else has been complete garbage. Can't we just let this concept rest?!
Yeah, I do agree, the entire concept was explored to the fullest in those 2 movies and the others mainly keep repeating the same cycle (except Salvation, I guess). This isn't a franchise or universe that has a lot of depth or room to expand. It doesn't have a deep bench of characters, or worlds, to explore, like Marvel or Star Trek. It's really just a cool, one-and-done kind of concept.

Agreed. The visceral appeal of the original – like Jaws or Alien or Jurassic Park – is that there's an unstoppable force out there that has nothing more complicated on its mind than that it wants to kill you. They can try to give the shark a personal grudge, or make the dinosaurs weapons of the military-industrial complex, but it just makes them sillier. With The Terminator, the time travel element means that nothing really matters, it can all just be undone.
But if they feel like there's an audience out there, they'll just keep trying. Which is fair. But this one is not for me.
I generally agree, mostly because I’m tired of rehashing the same IPs over and over again with lackluster sequels and reboots.
But something Godzilla Minus One taught me, or really reminded me was you can re-explore these existing universes if your protagonist has a very strong personal story to tell.
And it’s evident in sequels like ST2, Terminator2 and Aliens
Never heard of them, but the proof is in the pudding. They have some big shoes to fill, from Fiedel to Beltrami, Elfman, Balfe, Holkenborg and McCreary.

It's been getting great reviews, however I'm still bitter about the SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES getting cancelled so I'm not sure I'm ready to love a TERMINATOR show again.
I really liked Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as well, but the last time it was relevant was a period where George W. Bush was newly done with his Presidential career. Not only does that makes me feel the grind of time, but you've also got to move on from such miniscule things in the world of media. There has been plenty of bad Terminator media since then. I get it. While I haven't watched this new series (I do plan to), the more important thing to be would be hoping it could be good rather than reflecting on such a long ago past.
