There is a timespan between 1 and 2. 1 is right there at the precipice of the apocalypse, MAD MAX 2 is set several years later, after it's all become a wasteland. 3 even a few years after that.

I'm not sure how the two new films fit in, chronologically, but I think they're set even later than 3. Didn't I read somewhere that the Mel Gibson character is supposed to exist in the same universe, old at this point, but not seen (so far)? The Tom Hardy character isn't ACTUALLY the Max character, recast. Or am I misremembering?

In FURY ROAD Max seem to still have his black V8 interceptor which was destroyed in ROAD WARRIOR so I think FURIOSA and FURY ROAD are set between 1 and 2 but more towards 2.

And there is also "Max Rockatansky" listed in the end credits of FURY ROAD so it is the same Max !!

Exactly.
MAD MAX :The civilized world is near collapse.A dysfunctional society on the brink of madness.
MAD MAX 2:A couple of years later.WorldWar 3 ( I guess) Civilizations have come to an end.Warlords are taking over.Fuel and gas is (still) the stuff
MAD MAX 3:Sort of a sequel to the second one
MAD MAX Fury Road: Sort of a sequel to the third one ( here I "disagree" with Thor...I think it is supposed to be Mel Gibsons Max.
FURIOSA: I guess a spin off..same time as 2_3 and 4

Musical wise,I only like
THE ROAD WARRIOR and THUNDERDOME
Holkenborgs is just "soundscape"...

The way I work it in my head is that this is a series of film more in common with Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy. I'm not looking for interconnected continuity. That does nothing to aid my enjoyment of this great franchise. I just appreciate seeing Miller paint on this Wasteland canvas regardless of trying to make silly sense of it all.

FURIOSA wowed everyone at Cinemacon yesterday with a ten minute sizzle reel! Also, Miller not only wrote, produced and directed the film, but he also did the second and third unit directing himself. I love him!

Really looking forward to this film and score. Fury Road kicked MAJOR ass on both levels, so I'm hoping Furiosa reaches LIEUTENANT COLONAL status at least!

FURIOSA was just given an R rating and is 2 hours and 28 minutes long. I can’t wait for this film!
