This really is, for me, the most significant John Barry release in years. We've heard versions of this music before: Barry's own two recordings of the theme--one uptempo and the other moody and mysterious. And the suite conducted by Nic Raine. But, for the first time, we hear the entire score. I haven't seen the film years, so I won't compare this new recording with Barry's original, but I will say this: It sounds like John Barry from start to finish, very nuanced and appropriately tense, chilling, and eerie. This score fits well with much of Barry's sixties output. Put this with The Whisperers, Dutchman, Four in the Morning, The Ipcress File, King Rat, and bits of other works and you've got a substantial sampling of a young composer with a fresh new approach to scoring, willing to incorporate jazz elements but keeping the focus on a brooding, somber interior approach.

Received my copy yesterday and have now played it all through once. I agree with everything in the above post, and with Stephen W’s lauding of the discs. I was surprised to hear faint touches of Thunderball in Seance, just in some of the chords used here and there, which I’d say is testament to the accuracy of the reconstruction. Congratulations to all involved, including me for buying it! Now, back to looking for spells to wish uncontrollable incontinence on a former boss…surely it’s only a matter of time.

Previously, I'd ripped some tracks from DVD's for A Doll's House, The Glass Menagerie, Love Among the Ruins, and The Corn is Green. So, how many times can one praise Quartet and everyone involved in the new recording of Seance and the Katharine Hepburn scores? The Barry sound is hard to capture but Orquesta de Cordoba has succeeded. The recordings are brilliantly done. The playing is nuanced and sounds like it could have been Barry at the podium conducting. Really enjoying this. If the CD does well, might we expect a complete Eleanor and Franklin and other Barry rarities? For example, what about the two jazz tracks from the L Shaped Room? There are so many possibilities...

What a year.....Seance and Goldfinger released. The former for the first time, Goldfinger in a brand new remastered and sequenced format. A great time for Barry fans.
