I liked the movie 'Killers of the Flower Moon' tremendously but I hardly noticed the score. Haven't seen or heard 'Poor Things' yet. 'Oppenheimer' I liked but I found the music domineering, even on CD. Couldn't for the life of me get into the score for 'Spider-Man:ATS' (and I usually like Pemberton's music a lot...) so I prefer the classical approach for 'Saltburn' by Anthony Willis.
While it's not a great standalone listen Robertson's score for Flower Moon worked very well in the movie in my opinion so I would vote for that. The rest I either didn't like or didn't care.
I recommend the soundtrack CD or vinyl for 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. Apart from the strident 'Osage Oil Boom' prologue the score is mixed very low in the film. Robertson has created a plethora of great themes all but buried in the film mix. The album is a 'killer' and a tremendous swan song for the revered musician.
Did anyone watch this show last Sunday? I watched on catch up but it was mostly cringeable car crash tv. I know it gets worse every year as the producers get younger n more agenda-obsessed and the luvvies take over. They even managed to fuck up and undermine the obit section by having Hannah Waddingham sing over the tribute section - so what do they do? Spend more of the songtime showing her but the poor old deceased n their captions were so short, you didn't have time to read it. In some cases you had 3 pictures at once and by the time you read the 2nd name it was gone. Talk about insulting the people who had passed after a lifetime in the industry.
If bafta are going to do it as shabbily as this, and if this is how they feel about respecting people's careers, they better leave the sequence off altogether next time.
Crazy isn't it, I remember in the 70s n 80s bafta night was almost required viewing - a rare chance to see big stars n legends in the flesh, warts n all.
Here's that in memorium clip from the baftas with waddingham singing, where they give such an insultingly short time to read the captions, let alone take it in and think about the academy person who passed. So much wasted wordy rubbish throughout the rest of the show, they cut the one thing that needs space.
I had to turn that off after a minute. I have no idea who she is, but I like that song by Cyndi Lauper, but not when it's being strangled to death by someone who CAN'T SING (certainly not that song anyway). Just horrible.
Hannah Waddingham was one of the stars of Ted Lasso. In the series, she sings at a karaoke bar - and quite well. Suddenly she's singing on everything (had an xmas special on appletv) and is popping up in adverts too.
