Wow, based on the 1953 film, and the 1977 one called SORCERER scored by Tangerine Dream.

Had been cool if Serra would channel his inner TD.

I'm not quite sure, to be honest. Given the genre, I'm fearing rather anonymous thriller and action tropes. My real hope, though, is that Serra is handed a bigger and better canvas, perhaps a nature documentary or something, so he can tap into some of those more laidback, beautiful textures a la ATLANTIS.

But hey, the original 1953 film by Clouzout is great, as is the score by Auric. And, yes, the SORCERER remake and score. So the source material should potentially inspire.

I saw this last night on Netflix and it's a lacklustre affair. The direction, acting and score are incredibly bland. I've never been a fan of Serra and this one is not gonna convert me.

Will give the movie a look (and a chance).

Nice to see Eric Serra scoring a new movie following Besson Dogman's big disappointment and his tough battle with a dazzling cancer in 2022.

Whoa, I had no idea he'd been struggling with cancer! Better now, I hope?

I sampled his new score last week, and while it wasn't overall very interesting, there were a few highlight tracks there.

He seems to be fine and currently touring with his RXRA band.

Listened to it this weekend. While not as great as Serra's 80's and 90's output, it's a pretty solid score. Definitely enjoyed it more than his last few scores for Besson. Don't expect any TD influences though.

As a grand admirer of the original Clouzot film and the Friedkin remake, I anticipated this new one because I think it is a great story worth telling again. I went in with an open mind to watch it this past Sunday with a few beers by my side. Unfortunately this new movie completely and fundamentally misunderstands the source material and the context and content of the story. Suddenly this is not a great story worth telling again because they are not interested in that but rather more interested in making a paint-by-numbers "gritty" Action movie with zero adventure, zero interesting characters, and zero filmmaking ability.

Yesterday I watched the movie. It was OK, with some exciting scenes, but basically an action movie and not a dramatic one like the original. As for Serra's music, probably this was his first score that I noticed in a movie. Serra has never been a favourite of mine, I own zero album by him. But somehow this percussion and electronica driven score took my attention and I actually quite liked it.
