So digital release now but physical release next year? The. sequel looks like a rehash of the first film but I hope the score is good. I love the original. I actually like the songs more than the background music which is not something I ever thought I would say.

Edit: Found the song only album on Spotify. The songs are rather kitschy. The "showstopper" Beyond (End Credits) is the best song. The rest sounds like fluff. Maybe they'll grow on me a bit, Encanto did after a few listens. Really miss the dynamic duo of Menken/Ashman.

Listened to the songs a second time. Sadly they are really subpar, they don't hold a candle next to the songs in the first movie. Unfortunately the score isn't much better. It's mostly Mickey Mousey music or percussion. Not the score I was hoping for.

it looks pretty good, probably be a massive hit

I agree Ado. I like what I saw in the trailer and am looking forward to it. I am a big fan of the original movie so I'm hoping that it honors the first film and lands strong.

I received a 3 month Apple Music subscription with my new iPad and listened to the deluxe album. I found it very good and the song "Beyond" is lovely. It has a balanced mix of whimsical, adventurous and Polynesian selections that seem to fit the story as described in what I've read.

We are in accord.

I wonder why Chloe Auli?i Cravalho doesn't get any flack from the meanies on the internet? Maybe because she conducts herself with grace. Another actress who will go unnamed could learn a thing or two.

Yes, she's a good girl who knows her place apparently.

Oof, getting pretty close to misogyny here...

Is FSM starting to descend into a schoolyard 'Boys vs Girls' level scenario?

Sad.

It's not getting close, it's there. What's sad is that it has been labeled "a schoolyard 'Boys vs Girls' level scenario?" and has infested this side of the board. Up until yesterday, this thread was all about the music. This is my final comment on this as anything else will be feeding the troll.

Pot calling the kettle black. That's my last word on it.

Reviews aren't good. Basically this was meant to be a Disney + series but decided to make a feature film instead. It's like they took the beginning of the series and the ending of the series, cut out the middle and that's the movie. The additional characters don't contribute to the story, Moana doesn't grow or learn anything as a character and there's no villain. The music is certainly subpar. Guess I'll be skipping this one.

Actually they are better than average on whole, like a 57 of Metacritic. Which in a day when a lot of studio fare lands around 30-45, makes this the 'upper end', yeah. I have really loved quite a few movies with 50-60 ratings. The classic Pixar stuff is always 90's, but I will frankly take an average Disney studio animated film over the latest Marvel etc sausage factory extruded CGI bore fest. The review in Variety from Owen is actually pretty nice, not perfect, but decent. I would imagine the audience review Cinemascore will be at least B or even A and it will make a ton of money.

Looks like it s already doing quite well

I didn't say it wasn't going to do well, I have no idea. Nor do I wish it to do bad business. Earlier posts stated the film was originally going to be a Disney + series and it would likely be patched together into a film. That appears to be the case. If the soundtrack was a banger I'd go see it. But being the score is very lackluster in my opinion and the reviews Ive read kinda confirms this was haphazardly slapped together I don't feel excited enough to see this in the theaters.

apparently very little of the movie is much to do with the television show, from what I can tell it was early development with a little footage, and at this early stage it was changed to a movie, so it is hardly a sew together kind of thing. This is something around $150 million film, so quite a bit of production scale distant from a tv show

I’ve heard the animation is very good so I guess the money is on the screen.
