Ah, yes, that was a big one for me and my wife. The Lutoslawski was an important early concert for us. I'd forgotten the disc. An LP, it's out in the garage replaced by Jarvi on CD. I must look for the Fauré, which several have recommended.
I did hear Ozawa live once: the Gurre-Lieder. That was an event! Werner Klemperer narrated. Ozawa had a flair for such large-scaled works.
I only saw him conduct live once -- Mahler's 3rd one afternoon in the shed at Tanglewood in 1993 when I was a teenager, a performance that has haunted me ever since. Recently, I listened to the live BSO recording released around then on Philips, and while I've really fallen for much of Klemperer's Mahler, as far as I'm concerned nobody's ever done the 3rd better than Ozawa -- so clear and restrained, with such care for developing the feeling of each section -- he really casts a spell, and I'm forever haunted by it.
