Over the years, I have accumulated a number of CDs/CDRs of live concert recordings of Jerry Goldsmith film music. A very good resource is found on Jerry Goldsmith Online: https://www.jerrygoldsmithonline.com/spotlight_concerts.htm I have assembled a list of the Jerry Goldsmith concerts that I have been fortunate enough to come across below. Most were conducted by Jerry; a few others were conducted by others. Here is my own list: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1984 - Feb. ?? -------LOS ANGELES..........LIVE AT MUSIC CENTER (with Tommy Tedesco, guitar) (Courtesy of Zooba) https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=124314 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1987 - Mar. 10--------LONDON---------------THE FILM MUSIC OF JERRY GOLDSMITH (The Philharmonia Orchestra) ......................................................................(The Barbican) (Released on Varese Film Music Masters CD, etc.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 - Aug. 17-------LONDON-------------- THE MUSICAL WORLD OF JERRY GOLDSMITH (NPO/BBC Maida Vale Studios) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 - Aug. 18-------LONDON---------------JERRY GOLDSMITH IN CONCERT - LSO Summer Pops 1989 (Barbican) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1994 - Jan. 15--------NOTTINGHAM---------A CELEBRATION OF HOLLYWOOD (BBC Concert Orchestra) (BBC Radio 2) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1993 - Sept. 3--------TOKYO-----------------HOLLYWOOD SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR (Kanagawa Philharmonic Orch.) ......................................................................(Conducted by Orie Suzuki) (Volcano Records) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1998 - Oct. 4---------NEW YORK-------------JERRY GOLDSMITH AT CARNEGIE HALL (New York FILMHarmonic) .....................................................................(Audience DAT by me - Row 6 Center Orchestra) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1998 - Nov. 4 & 7----SEVILLE----------------CONCERT IN SEVILLE (Real Orchesta Sinfonica de Sevilla ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1999 - Aug. 9 --------LONDON---------------JERRY GOLDSMITH'S FILM NIGHT (LSO Summer Pops) (Barbican) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1999 - Dec. 10-------BARCELONA-----------CONCERT IN BARCELONA (Barcelona Symphony Orchestra & National of .........................................................................Catalonia) (Conducted by Franz-Paul Decker) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2000 - Date ??-------TOKYO------------------A CELEBRATION OF JAPAN 2000 (Goldsmith-Kanagawa Philharmonic Orch) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2000 - May 22--------LONDON---------------A CELEBRATION OF FILM MUSIC (LSO / Barbican) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2000 - May 23--------LONDON---------------STAR TREK AND THE WORLD OF FANTASY (LSO - Barbican) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 - June 28-------LONDON---------------JERRY GOLDSMITH - LIVE IN LONDON ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2003 - Date ??-------TOKYO-----------------JERRY GOLDSMITH: A CELEBRATION OF JAPAN TOUR 2003) (Pressed CD) ....................................................................(Recorded December 11, 1998) (Concert Souvenir) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2003 - Mar. 12--------TOKYO------------------JCAA MEETS JERRY GOLDSMITH (Kanagawa Phil. I hope we can work out a trade or any other arrangement that pleases us both. Yes, I know that these selections are available on other CD soundtracks. The same goes for scans of or of extra copies of Concert Programs. I hope that this post turns up some leads and not just crickets and tumbleweeds. A number of the London Concerts used to be on YouTube as audio-only files. The only concert left seems to be the short outdoor concert in Budpest, Hungary, June 27, 1999. Let's see what turns up. Hi again Clarke, I did a little bit of dusting-off research about the remark that you recalled. I have a full set of LEGEND: THE OFFICIAL GOLDSMITH FILM MUSIC SOCIETY JOURNAL, so I looked in issue number 28, which reviewed the February 20, 1999, Goldsmith concert in Glasgow with the RNSO. The reviewer, Marie Wilson, did recall this remark: "Goldsmith, just to confuse the audience, decided to change the programme line-up and play the theme from L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, but not before making a joke about not receiving an Award because of an iceberg." So I guess that was one of the lead-in lines he had in his concerts at the time. Boat. Iceberg. Well, TITANIC did beat L.A. CONFIDENTIAL for the Oscar. Just not MULAN Ron Burbella

I had a look at the list on the website. It's a little confusing, because no year or date is given in some of those top entries, but from what I can gather, it seems to cut off in 2004, with the top entry. While I never got to see the man himself, I did actually attend a Goldsmith concert that is NOT on the list of that website. That was here in Norway, in 2011, performed by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. I did a report of that concert, Google Translated below (for anyone interested), but alas I don't think any video exists of the concert. I can't remember seeing any cameras, anyway. I would have to contact the organizer to hear: https://montages-no.translate.goog/2011/04/kringkastingsorkesteret-hyller-jerry-goldsmith/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=no&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_hist=true

The audio from the Barcelona concert i'm pretty sure is recorded. I visited my parents who were living in Spain, and picked up a rental car at the airport. Turned on the radio, and this concert played on the radio !!!!! This was about 1 year after the concert was held.

It was doubly amazing because I was in the front row less than 10 feet away from the podium! It was so cool. I remember him also delaying Planet of the Apes and playing The Russia House before that too. Getting to hear The Hunt from POTA played live was unforgettable. He was due to return to Glasgow a few years later and I got tickets, but it was around the time Jerry was ill again and unable to travel, so Elmer Bernstein was his replacement that night.

BBC Radio 2 broadcast the 1989 summer pops concert live, and I recorded it to cassette at the time. Alas, I don't still have it.
