Sequel film being filmed now.

Director is Joachim Rønning. H's had no composer he's worked with more than once so far on films. The last two composers he worked with are Amelia Warner and Geoff Zanelli .

Whoa, a director from my own country! Cool. I wondered how Rønning's career was going these days, after that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ordeal.

A sequel to TRON sounds exciting -- they always tend to get good scores out them. Dan Le Sac's recent score for the "visual novel" TRON: IDENTITY was excellent, and a worthy addition to the Daft Punk sound template (yes, I know it's the Wendy Carlos template, but you know what I mean).

They've disbanded.

Apparently, it's not a continuation of Legacy, though full cast details have yet to be announced. I wonder if that's the episodic approach Disney will take from here out. Also, with that rather bold release date (HA!), I'm also guessing that either New Jedi Order or Avatar 3 will have to wait.

I assumed Joseph Trapanese would get the gig, since he helped with the orchestral parts of Legacy and also scored the animated series.

Off the top of my head, Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross or Ludwig Göransson could do something interesting with it.

I don't think anybody here would expect me o say this, but what about Harold Faltermeyer?

Synths? Check.
Bad guy who could probably use some electric guitar work with some orchestra -- check.

The cast was announced a while back.

The lead is Greta Lee, from Past Lives. The villain is Jared Leto. Other actors are Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson.

Doesn't look like anyone from Legacy is returning.

The cancelled Joe Kosinski film was to be a sequel to Legacy, this one looks like it has very little to do with the previous film.

It's a shame Cillian Murphy did his cameo in Legacy for nothing. He played David Warner's son in one scene, to set him up as the villain in the planned sequel.

I think John Scott could knock this out of the park.

AND I hear that he's available...

This would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

Most likely someone from this list:
Ludwig Göransson
Lorne Balfe
Tom Holkenborg
Hans Zimmer plus-one

Surprised no one suggested Don Davis. He’d be perfect.

Don Davis? John Scott? What have you guys been smoking? big grin

Balfe and Holkenborg could deliver the goods, definitely, not so sure about Zimmer (that would be Zimmer in 90s mode, if so, and that ain't gonna happen). I'd like to have Göransson as far away from this as humanly possible. Most overrated composer of our times.

Trapanese is a natural choice, as is the aforementioned Dan Le Sac. Both have done great work for the franchise already. Wendy Carlos herself is retired and wont' be coming back. Daft Punk no longer exists, even if one of the two could do it solo. But that ain't gonna happen either.

Personally, I'd love a synthwaver to take a stab at this, like Waveshaper, Carpenter Brut, Ilya Santana, Daniel Deluxe etc. Too low-profile, though. Perhaps legends like Paul Oakenfold or Jean Michel Jarre make a film score comeback. Or other electronic acts, whether they have done film scores or not (Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, Juno Reactor etc.). Other good candidates would be Nicolas Godin (of Air), Cliff Martinez (along with Julian Winding), Paul Haslinger, the Carpenter gang, M83....etc. etc.

Time will tell.

Scott is a great traditional composer but thats not what this property needs. That would be like enlisting Williams. Davis can fit the style quite nicely. But my first choice would be the composer from the previous film. The guy who did Sonic could work but his music is the equivalent of “fast food”. Good while you consume it but not memorable.

I haven't really heard anything in Davis' work that would suggest he has the chops for those retro, analogue synth sounds. He was good at incorporating the Juno Reactor material in his MATRIX scores, but that's a different ball game altogether. At most, I could see him working in the background, providing some orchestral arrangements and segues - I believe Daft Punk also had that on their score. But he's also semi-retired from the film industry at this point.

My John Scott suggestion was a total joke. There was a time here when people would always drop Scott's name whenever there was a big assignment that hadn't been announced yet DESPITE there being a snowball's chance in hell of John Scott being the list - ANY list - to get the job. Who should score "Mission Impossible 7?" Well... it's probably NOT going to be John Scott.

Don Davis isn't a bad suggestion, really, but I doubt the producers would select him for the job.

That's the main cast, but it could be a situation, though in lower profile due to this property, that Hedlund, Wilde, or even Bridges could make a secret cameo. It would be a bit easier to sneak them in since it's not like Cavill-in-Justice-League caliber of "news". But certainly not Boxleitner, who stated that he's done with the franchise.

It rather stings that this development is made public shortly after Cindy Morgan's passing. I reeeeeaaaalllly would've loved to see her return.
