I remember when the videogame DOOM came in the early 90s. I didn't play it myself, as I hated playing shoot 'em ups where you died (I preferred the calmer point-and-click adventure games), but I watched other people play it. That and DOOM 2. So I have a sorta nostalgic relationship to the game.
Then came the film. I was skeptical, but remember being impressed by how decent it was -- how they were able to build on a relatively simple videogame premise. I rewatched it again two years ago or so, and I have to admit that it holds up as an entertaining genre potboiler.
Now, while I'm a huge Mansell fan, this score didn't quite grab me. But thanks to this announcement, I'm tempted to give the OST another chance.
Memory lane over.
Sadly, the movie replaces demons with mutants. How could such a unique idea get replaced by something so damn generic?
